2021 Booker T. Washington (FL) DT Anthony Hundley decommitted from Miami over the weekend.
The 6-1 255 pounder is currently a 3-star in the national rankings. According to 247Sports, Hundley is the #501 player nationally, #31 DT in the country, and the #56 player in the Sunshine State. His decommitment does not change Miami’s 2021 class ranking at #1 in the nation on 247Sports or Rivals.
Background
Hundley was committed to Miami for 3 months, and wasted little time pledging to Miami back in May, giving the staff his commitment just one day after receiving his offer. From the beginning, it seemed that former high school teammate Donell Harris being in the class was a big reason for Hundley’s commitment to Miami and he said as much publicly in interviews. When Harris left both Booker T. and Miami’s class two months back, the writing was on the wall here. It became even more obvious that a decommitment was coming when Hundley told reporters at High School Media Day earlier this month that his recruitment was still 100% open and that he wasn’t set with the Hurricanes.
Future of the Class
Hundley’s exit leaves 12 commits in the 2021 class, with Miami Palmetto (FL) 4-star Savion Collins now the lone DT in Category21. The Canes would love to pair Collins up again with his 4-star high school teammate Leonard Taylor in the class as well and have been pushing hard for Taylor the last few months. Taylor made multiple visits to Miami this spring and summer, and some feel UM has a lead right now, but watch out for a program like Auburn. Taylor is in the process of setting a visit there as of now and the Tigers want him badly.
The Canes have also been pursuing a quartet of highly-rated out of state defensive tackles in Dudley (NC) 5-star Payton Page, Terrebonne (LA) 4-star Maason Smith, St. Peters Prep (NJ) 4-star George Rooks, and Bergen Catholic (NJ) 4-star Tywone Malone. Amazingly, Miami got all four of them on campus for Paradise Camp back in June, and both Page and Malone told CIS that UM made a move with them that weekend. Landing any of these four would be a huge recruiting win for Manny Diaz’s staff, as Miami has made clear that they aren’t going to wait around on local kids and will go after the best of the best in the entire country.
