2021 Chaminade-Madonna kicker Andres Borregales committed to the Hurricanes today while on campus for their specialists camp.
The 5-11 140 pounder is currently unranked in the national rankings by the recruiting services; no kicker is. However, according to Kornblue Kicking, he is the #1 ranked kicker in the 2021 class. His commitment keeps Miami’s 2021 class at #1 in the nation on 247Sports.
The Player
Borregales did not take long to pull the trigger for the Hurricanes, as he received his offer back in early May. He picked the Canes over offers from Southern Miss and FIU, where his brother Jose currently kicks and who was a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Award as a sophomore in 2018.
The local kicking phenom has certainly earned his title of the #1 ranked kicker. In late April, he participated in the Kornblue Kicking “Fab50” national camp and took home the title for both top kicker and punter for the 2021 class. He is now considered the #1 high school kicker in the nation regardless of class by Kornblue Kicking, a nationally recognized kicking instruction company.
Borregales recently announced he would transfer to Chaminade for his upcoming junior season, but he played 2018 with Booker T. Washington, where he was named first team All-Dade for his performance. He went 7/9 in FG’s as a sophomore (longest being 47) and hit 33/47 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Borregales is known for his strong leg, and there is film of him kicking a 67 yard field goal in practice at just 16 years old. His timing and rhythm are very advanced for his age, and he gets exceptional lift off his boots. Solid accuracy that will improve as his technique becomes more refined. Gets plenty of hangtime on his kickoffs and often places them out of the endzone or very close to it. He is also an experienced punter and could potentially fill that role as well if Miami so chooses.

Borregales’ commitment brings the total class numbers to 10 and UM has found their guy at kicker. This marks the end of kicker recruiting for not just the 2021 class, but likely at least the next cycle in 2022 as well.

The Canes currently only have one other scholarship kicker on the roster, sophomore Bubba Baxa, and he is entrenched in the starting role. By the time Borregales hits campus in 2021, Baxa will be an experienced senior in his final season at Miami, which means Borregales will likely redshirt. The timing couldn’t work out much better for the Canes, as they will have the top-ranked kicker ready to take over the job in 2022 with a year of college already under his belt and 4 years still to play.
