IYO, should UM just scrap what they're trying to do on defense and allow the front 4 to use speed and athleticism to get upfield? If the truth be told this defense really didn't stop anyone last year. If what you're doing isn't working shouldn't you try something else? This mind numbingly stupid IMO.

I don't think our front four has speed and athleticism. Chikillo isn't a great athlete. Green is a blown up LBer with bad knees. Cain? A bunch of small freshmen? Our DTs aren't very good. I don't like our scheme but I don't know how much we can do to have a decent defense.

Even if we ran a more agressive man to man scheme once teams got some tape they would start destroying us and people would ***** for us to play more zone. I would prefer a more agressive man to man scheme though cause personally thats what I would prefer when we get some talent.

Aren't we getting destroyed now?

Yep but thats my point. No matter what scheme we run we will have a horrible defense. You can change the scheme but your only changing the style in which you suck. I would prefer to change schemes for no other reason than I prefer a more aggressive man to man approach. Thats what I would like us to be when we finally get the talent in place. If we were an aggressive man to man team though we would still be getting destroyed. If you can't stop the run and you can't get to the qb there isn't a defensive scheme out there that will fix it.

If/When someone else come in here he's going to be working with many of these same kids. That argument isn't going to stand up. You can't hang your hat on next years recruits or JC kids. Our kids are going to have to play better, and our coaches have to coach better. Of course we need an infusion of talent but those guys should be redshirting getting stronger next year. Any JC kid worth his salt UM will have to contend with the SEC powers for those services...

Why would you ask Cityboy? The guy is a position coach on a crappy high school football team. Guy doesn't know ****.

That is the other Cityboy. His official name is CityBoyCane as I am Cityboy4life.

My coaching experience came from Pop Warner, Grad Assistant, DC Assistant on college level (Helped with game planning, film work, scouting)

Let that be a lesson to the haters! Stay on topic or step off!

Cityboy4life82 is a master troll. lol. He even had me fooled - i thought he was nothing but a no-good racehustling Shammin slurper...but in reality, he is just having a lot of fun on the boards.

Very subtle, his trolling is. I have to give him his due. :rollcanes:

From watching film our alignment (Scheme) along with the complexity of the defense has been a big issue. Our kids are having a tough time with picking up the defense and that falls on Coach D'O.

The players that are on the field have been in this system for two years so it falls on the DC because this should not be an issue two years into the system. My suggestion would be to simplify the defense to make it easier on our young players. Coach D'O knew that his defense would be young and inexperienced along time ago. He has also watched them in practice for months. If they are not getting it on game day, I am sure they were not getting it in practice. So why continue to run that scheme with out some alterations?

My suggestion would be to run a cover 2 scheme with man and some zone underneath. I would also adjust my defensive line schemes by using more movement and gap penetration instead of gap control. It should be clear to coach D'O that our players are not getting it. The rumors may be true that our players hate playing that scheme as they prefer to attack.

Eddie Johnson did a pretty good job on the play. He will end up out of position because of his inexperience. On the other hand Cornelius completely blows his assignment.

28.gif

Instead of understanding why he is covering his area. Cornelius is just running to the spot his coaches taught him without any regards to what is going on around him.

Cornelius has dropped back so far he is not even in the picture any longer. This lef the huge passing window. With EJ being slow on his rotation he puts himself out of position increasing the passing window. He needed to be more inside and flat.

Cornelius dropped back so far he is now out of position to make any play on the ball.

Red is where they currently are and green is where they should have been.

Lucky for us Reese threw it behind the WR.... unfortunately AJ Highsmith did his best Blake Gideon impersonation.

I got a question. We know that what we're doing on defense sucks more than a black hole.

To take advantage of the characteristics we have on defense - speed, youth, athleticism, enthusiasm - would a 2-5-4 or a 2-4-5 work better? Put our corners in the face of receivers and rush, stunt, blitz, and ankle-bite on every play?

Just let the young men know who their man is, and tell them to get the damned ball?

Nothing else has worked.

Ugh, please please please don't start threads asking Cityboy for opinions. Ask LuCane, DMoney etc, but please please please dont encourage him or make others think he is credible.
