American Heritage Scoop
There's no question that some folks in Coral Gables think that things are trending up with five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. and trending down a bit with five-star cornerback Tyson Campbell. A trusted source said that the Hurricanes were somewhat surprised to see Surtain Jr. on campus last week for the men's basketball game against Duke, but at the same time not all that shocked as the U.S. Army All-American has been very receptive to recent conversations with Mike Rumph.
Both Rumph and Manny Diaz conducted an in-home visit with the Surtain family on Wednesday night. The buzz coming out of that meeting is that the Hurricanes will likely get Surtain Jr. on campus for an official visit the weekend before National Signing Day although that date isn't exactly locked in yet. One thing to note however is that Kerry Coombs (Surtain's primary recruiter at Ohio State) just accepted an NFL job which might take the Buckeyes out the running for an official visit in these final two weeks.
As for Campbell the folks at UM still remain optimistic. The plan as of early Wednesday morning is for the U.S. Army All-American to be on campus the weekend of Feb. 2 with his parents. Miami has saved the in-home visit with Mark Richt for next week and one contact connected to the recruitment thinks that could play a huge factor in the decision process. Remember last cycle Kai-Leon Herbert was dead-set on signing with Michigan until Richt sat in his living room and changed his mind. Georgia continues to feel good about where things stand.
Those close to Top300 linebacker/defensive end Andrew Chatfield believe that he remains torn between Miami and Florida. The good news however might be the fact that both of his parents want him at UM. Some also think that Ja'Juan Seider's decision to leave Dan Mullen's staff could ultimately swing things in favor of the Hurricanes as he was heavily involved in Chatfield's recruitment. Which also might be the case when it comes to Nesta Silvera. The Top100 defensive tackle spent this past weekend in Gainesville, but we have yet to hear anything that suggests he's wavering on his verbal pledge to Miami. He's expected to join Campbell in Coral Gables next weekend. We heard that Rumph and Diaz got plenty of face time with mom at AMH on Wednesday.
The parent thing is irrelevant.
ALL of their parents want them to stay home. If parents play a big part in their decisions then we'll get all 4.
Dude, I've been with you as far as smh at guys attacking you for bringing information to the board as you've been here a long time and have real coaching contacts being a coach yourself.
That said, you blanketly think all parents are irrelevant in these decisions? How well do you know the relationships and dynamics in each of these families?
No, my man, I'm not saying parents don't matter. I'm saying that him mentioning that the parents want them to stay home is irrelevant. (because all of their parents want them to stay home)
Know what I'm trying to say?
He's using that as a bit of positive info regarding Chatfield, but you could say the same thing for all of their parents. (yet we're still hearing that they're leaning elsewhere)
Knowing what we know, it APPEARS that the parents desires aren't playing a major role in their decisions. If it was then they'd all be Miami leans.
Yeah. I appreciate all the info you bring. I knew there would be a bunch of chaos and confusion in the final Sprint so I'm in wait and see mode with the final visits and then NSD.
I'm hoping Franchise is right about this. It's weird to see talk of Nesta flipping to the 3-4 Gaytors and Chatfield picking them too. Were that to happen, there would need to be changes made on the defensive side of recruiting. No way around it but I'm not going there unless we fail on NSD. Hopefully we will be good.
