CHATFIELD

I see he tagged Manny in his post and not coach Kool. Any chance they are bringing him in as linebacker prospect? Or does his body type/style of play fit solely as a down linemen ? Thanks

Didn't see this post, It looks like to me he can play either position. The kid gets MVP in some of the games, glad they didn't pass on him.

FWIW, tiger droppings interviewed Surtain on 10/31 and asked him which other players he'd like to play with in college - he said chatfield and campbell.

Could you imagine? This class just keeps getting better. One step closer to a NC, the feeling is in the air, a couple years away if we keep recruiting like this. This coaching staff is wrapping up SF, won't be long now.

Y’all boy finally got his offer. I’m happy for the kid kept working hard and made Kool give him that offer, that’s how you do it. Showed me all I needed to see kid sets his mind on it and doesn’t give up. Give me him, Joyner & Bonitto and I might do like some of y’all and not wear pants all of 2018 lol.

Why wait? I'm startin' now. No pants.

Is there a reason why some don't like him at LB? From the little I've seen him on tape it looks like he can play either position, (LB or DE). I guess I'm missing something, he looks fast enough to play either.

I don't like him at LB because he's not fast enough. I like him at DE because he's a natural pass rusher who lives in the backfield.

I don't understand the idea of taking super productive pass-rushing monster HS DEs and trying to turn them into average college LBs. Let him do what got him here--KILL QBs.

The anti pants movement is strong and gaining steam.

gonna play DE. he's not a lb here. we aren't recruiting 4.9 lbers. and we don't really play "hybrids". so stop.

Awwwwwwwwwww ****!!!! This is Absolutely Perfect!!!!!

so they gonna start triple team recruiting Surtain right? please tell me your cuz, chat, and silverado are gonna be in Surtain's ear

That's where the smart money is Z my man

How's the dynamic of the relationship between the 4 of them? Are Chatfield and Tyson close?

Those 4 are reeeallly good friends. As far as Ty & Drew go, I'll put it like this, they had already hit it off by 9th Grade. When they found out that Drew's Uncle & I have been like brothers since we were 8th Graders, they started to think of each other as non-biological family...

^ this right here. Getting nasty in the backfield is a talent that isnt entirely correlated to a 40yd dash either..:

Terrell Suggs was coming off an NCAA-record 24-sack season at Arizona State and was considered a lock to be a top-5 pick. Then he struggled at the combine, running a 4.84 40 and putting up just 19 bench press reps. Suggs dropped to Baltimore at 10th overall and has gone on to six Pro Bowl appearances and an AP Defensive Player of the Year award in 2011.

Yup. The skills involved in being a DE and a LB are quite different. DEs know how to penetrate and get to the QB. LBs have to be able to play in space, making vision and ability to diagnose vital. Chatfield knows how to play DE very well. Why would you convert him to a LB if we have no idea he has the skill set?

Jonathan Vilma ran a 5.0 coming out of H.S. He turned out to be very fast.

I think at the very least, they've got a situational pass rush specialist. I agree with some other posters that it's a waste to move him to linebacker. Mike Smith has already been mentioned. If a guy is good at getting after the quarterback, then let him do that. He looked overmatched in some of those camp videos but he's obviously having no problems going against top competition in games so I'm on board with this kid.

THIS X2. As a Steelers fan I can vouch that **** being one of the nastiest, high motor high producing rushers ever for B'More. Hate him casue he kills us every time. 40 time =/= raw ability.

Besides the fact the kid deserved a scholarship this has to be one of the smartest moves by the staff . We need that AH pipeline and I’m sure this will help with this class @ AH . Next smartest move will try to flip the fsu db commitment from STA and offer the STA lb. Numbers will work itself @ db .Need to lock down STA , MC , BTW , AH and the other Dade county schools who continue to produce great talent . Put a wind tunnel up to blow Saban helicopter back into the ocean and put spike strips up for the other ****roach coaches . We should do a fundraiser to hire an PI to catch Bama and the rest of the sec for paying for south Fl kids . Forgot about sending sits packing that’s another great move

At 195 pounds at that.

He's a DE all the way. You don't want to put him behind the line and covering in space. Utilize his talents for getting off the line and getting into that backfield.

Kool has been the one they sent with Rumph to evaluate him. He's playing DE. He tagged Diaz because he's the one that offered the scholarship. You slow play a kid, evaluate him, or whatever you want to call it.. you let the DC hand deliver the offer to make up for it. That's just how it works. I think the same thing happened with Bandy. I think Richt actually offered Bandy
