We'll have a definitive answer on Al Golden, one way or another. I am honestly right in the middle and feel both sides have great arguments:
Pro Goldens- Randy left us with NOTHING, an absolutely putred roster. If you look at the recruiting classes that people have posted it is mind boggling. The talent level is terrible. There are holes and depth issues at every position on the field. On a positive note, Al has brought in some difference makers including Eddie Johnson, Deon Bush, and Duke Johnson. We have a frustrating offense, but also an offense that is explosive at times like we haven't seen in quite some time. To me, its the best offense since the 2002.
Anti Goldens- Yeah, we had some horrible recruiting classes, but were they so bad that our defense would be ranked 118th in the nation? Thats just too hard to believe. If the defense simply struggled, it would be understandable. But they are doing so much worse than just struggling. Teams move the ball at will. Notre Dame, with a terrible offense, ran the ball down our throats. We knew they were going to run, and they would break off 20 yard runs. Virginia, an awful team, scored 41 on us. Like Whatthehell posted the other day, teams are averaging 3 punts a game versus Miami-THREE!!!!! This team is young, but not that **** young. And they are experienced at this point-the sophomores have played almost two full seasons in this system, the freshman almost a full season. Its game 10 and we have guys not knowing where dey s'posed to be on the field before a play comes in. Everyone agrees the talent ain't there, but shouldn't a great coach be able to coach these guys up? Throw in there the fact that this is the worst the ACC has been....ever, and its shocking that we are 5-5 right now.
Like I said, there are great arguments on both sides, but the answer will not come for me until next year. We'll have a senior quarterback, a top 5 athlete in the nation at running back, a deep, talented WR group and a good offensive line. That offense should average 40 points a game next year. We'll have a difference makers at the linebacker and safety positions-I'm talking NFL caliber players. Our Dline will be a year older, and some question marks at CB.
If this team does not win the ACC next year, all fingers should point to coaching.
