Canes Trivia Answer!
Basketball comes in at No. 4 with 18 postseason appearances; seven NCAA tournament appearances and eleven NIT tournament appearances. Their best finish has been the Sweet Sixteen in the 2000 and 2013 NCAA tournaments. Their best finish in the NIT has been the quarterfinals (2006, 2011).
Football is No. 3 with 35 bowl games; 18 wins and 17 losses. The football team has the most championships of course, with five championships (1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, 2001).
The top two are a bit of a debate.
Baseball has 42 postseason appearances. They probably have the most impressive resume with 41-consecutive appearances and winning it all in 1982, 1985, 1999, and 2001.
Tennis has anywhere from 39 to 45 appearances. The official almanac on the school's website says 39, but if you count the record books later there are 45 appearances listed. So it's debatable. The NCAA completely restructured the NCAA tournament format in 1977. According to the records, before 1977 the Hurricanes finished in the NCAA tournament rankings 20 times. Their highest finish was runner-up in 1965 and 1975 and they finished in the top four 10 times. Since the new format started, the Canes have appeared 25 times, with three Sweet Sixteen finishes (2001, 2006, 2009). Their most impressive record is their 137-match win streak, a NCAA record.
