and it seems to be picking up steam. With 6,742 supporters thus far, we are only 3258 off of the goal of 10K. For those who have seen this and already signed it, disregard. For those who haven't, check this out.

A New York Cane Fan decided that maybe it takes a family of Canes to motivate a city to reclaim the essence of the old Orange bowl and started a petition to see if we can make our dreams a reality. The way I see it, it doesn't hurt to have physical evidence from the citizens that a demand is actually valid. So what do you think? I have signed it, the choice is yours.

The University of Miami lost a grand part of its heritage when the Orange Bowl was destroyed and all the tradition associated with is at risk of disappearing forever. The Miami Hurricanes have helped transform the University of Miami into a vibrant institution of excellence. Without rich traditions it is in danger of becoming a sterile factory of education. Every major public and private college with a major athletic program has the tradition its students, alumni, faculty and the community will long remember and is engrained in their being. That tradition is having "gameday" be a ritual where everyone involved can walk through campus to their own stadium. That tradition is LIVING your alma mater, being an active participant not just a spectator. The next generation will know nothing of the electricty felt at the Orange Bowl when the team would emerge from the smoke, they will have no traditions because they are going to be at an NFL stadium where the Hurricanes are basically just squatters. Our students, alumni, faculty and the community DESERVE THEIR OWN TRADITIONS that UF, FSU and now even FAU, UCF and FIU enjoy every home game!!
If you support the idea of a stadium for our Miami Hurricane Football team either on Campus or close by (i.e. Tropical Park) that our Canes can call their own then sign the petition! An on campus stadium is ideal but won't be easy. Our students need this, our alumni need this and the community needs this! It could be the focal point of many great memories for decades to come!! WE WANT A STADIUM! If you WANT to see UM build that stadium then sign the petition! SIGN THE PETITION and then tell your friends and family to SIGN THE PETITION!

I don't care what anyone says...I still hold out hope. Even if I'm wrong I refuse to give in to the notion that my beloved Canes are going to continue to play in that God forsaken garbage stadium forever.

Root for the Marlins to lose every game, exhibition, and scrimmage for the next few years. Eventually I gotta think Loria will cave and either sell or move the team. My hate for the Marlins is approaching UF territory.

A goal of 10,000 fans signing a petition? If each of those petitioners would agree to pony up $30,000 each, we'd be in business. It takes $$$$$ to build stadiums, not the wishes of a relatively few fans who won't put money into the project.

I get what your saying dingaan, but you have to start somewhere. Change doesn't happen over night and sure as **** doesn't appear out of nowhere. An outreach for funds also can't begin unless the govern body of the university feels compelled to consider the option. That consideration is partially based on what its community desires as a whole. We all know its a very complicated endeavor to pull off, but what harm is there in trying.

Why don't you take this petition to the home games and get them signed? I'm sure you'll have way over 10,000 signatures.

Its not my petition but that isn't a bad idea at all. I'll pass it along.

I don't mean to be a naysayer, but it looks like it's taken nearly two years (about a year and 8 months) to gather 6k signatures, and that's with Alonzo Highsmith's assistance in taking to twitter and talking all about it. If the organizers want to make this happen, they need to come up with some other way to get the word out. Cane1923 has an idea; take it to home games. Maybe have a booth or something set up in the parking lot of the stadium, and have petitions there for folks to sign. Gotta beat the pavement instead of just putting something up online and leaving it there.

This. If the organizers are serious, put the work in. Too many blogs and message board banter about a hurricanes' stadium but not enough follow through. If this is something most feel strongly about, get off your tails and do something about it. Strategize, Organize, and then Mobilize. Take the petition to the Florida Game, I bet you'll get the signatures then. Tens of thousands.

I agree, something local but where is our south florida fan base? Some type of movement locally would be great.

You might do better if you concentrate your efforts on people who actually live in Miami.

If I were the mayor of Miami, and you came to me with this petition started by some Canes fan from New York, signed by people all over the country, I'd thank you for your efforts, and promptly throw it in the garbage bin.

Go on to the UM campus. You can get 10,000 signatures there alone. Go out into the neighborhoods of Miami. They are the only people who can actually get a stadium built for the Canes.

Im Dr. Evil when it comes to the Marlins. I hope for them... to die.

This has little to do with the petition/stadium, but I really hate Strauzer. He's a weak minded, idiotic fool.
