....why Clemson didn't fall far after being slaughtered by FSU @ home,
Stanford didn't slide further down after losing to an unranked team,
and Miami loses to FSU, at their place in battle until the 2nd half
meltdown, and we fall like a stone?

It's really frustrating.

I don't know where those teams were before and after their losses, but I didn't think we dropped unreasonably far. I think the case could be made that we're still rated too high for what we truly are, but based on our record and schedule, the ranking seems about right.

We dropped 4 spots?
OU lost - so if we beat VT we're back in top 10.

With our schedule we should be thanking our lucky stars. Voters like Golden (not Miami).

As mentioned, we didn't really drop that far under the circumstances. But the answer to your overall question is because we didn't impress anyone when we had a chance.

This thing is, in large part, a beauty pageant...which means when you have a nationally televised Thursday night game against a relatively weak team (at least as far as national perception is concerned), you need to win and look good doing it. We beat UNC, but won "ugly."

Follow that that with another ugly last-minute win, against another relatively weak team in Wake Forest, and you've lost the chance for people to consider the previous game a fluke (i.e. benefit of the doubt is gone). At that point, only thing keeping you up is the Ws. When you lose, even to a strong team, you drop.

At this point, though, rankings almost don't matter. Don't get me wrong, it's fun for us fans (because you get talked about more, see more highlights and game coverage, etc.), but unless your in the hunt for a MNC then whatever. Just get to the conference championship game and go from there.

Clearly Stanford deserves to be ________. They beat #3 Oregon, #23 ASU, #15 Washington, #9 UCLA and #25 OSU. So even though that fat L to UTAH is bad, they deserve to be top 5 (BCS).

As for Clemson, they beat #5 UGA who is now unranked. I cannot explain this at all. They got blown out by FSU at home, like you said. I suppose our L is better than their L but I don't think it makes much of a difference.

Comparing Miami v. Clemson

As for Our OOC v. their OOC schedule

UF, USF, Savannah State and FAU

v.

UGA, USCe, Citadel and South Carolina State

If Clemson wins out (hoping they lose to GT), they will likely be ranked higher than us in the BCS polls and it is unfortunate. Not that this guarantees anything because the Bowls can pick who they take.

Clemson will lose to south Carolina don't worry we just have to worry about ours

It may have to do with the fact that we've barely been winning against no-name teams. We were fortunate those games weren't on TV, or we'd have never been rated as the #7 team.

Then when we actually play another top ten team, we get slaughtered. On TV.

I do agree Stanford is a top 5 team, I just think they treat
other teams with more favor than others to try
to keep them within striking distance of getting
back into the title game if they slip up.

You mean like $EC teams needing four losses to get knocked out of the top 25. That stuff amazes me.....

We are a tough, gritty team gutting out wins and not looking pretty doing it. And we are about to go through our stiffest test yet based on how we match up with a fellow tough, gritty team with mediocre (at best) QB play. I'd like to think that we move up with a victory against VT, but the winner of this game might win 3-2.

In two years when we are legitimately back in the NC race they will treat us with a little more favor as well. We aren't quite there yet. But the tides will turn in the next few years.

In the human polls. Clemson fell from 3rd to 9th. We fell from 7th to 14th. Bout the same if you ask me. All that matters is where your standing at the end of the season.

mainly b/c Miami and Baylor were sitting right behind Stanford.....

The pollsters didnt want Baylor or Miami in the "top 5" so they gave Stanford a mulligan for that Utah lost... also b/c the Stanford Oregon game had to be a "meaningful" prime time game between 2 top 10 teams to pump up ratings and to pump up the perception of the PAC 12.

This constant talk of the pollsters placing teams in certain spots due to primetime TV games is rubbish. Rubbish.

no facts but j/s it would make sense.... Oregon and Stanford wouldnt have been considered a meaningful game if Stanford was ranked where they should've been after losing to Utah which is around 20th.

But I think Miami, Mizzou, and Baylor being undefeated had more to do with it though at the time. Stanford was suppose to be the better team so they let the Utah game slide.

Every 1 loss team in the top 25 lost to a team better then Utah.

Stanford belongs in that top tier of teams. For the guys who watched the game and didn't just look at the final score, Stanford completely and thoroughly dominated Oregon, who everyone thought was the clear #2 or 3 team in the country. They have other impressive wins too.

After that top tier it's a pig fvck anyway. All the other teams in the top 25 are interchangeable including us. Look at OU, who was ranked ahead of us. They're trash. They got dominated by a bad Texas team and ran off the field by Baylor. LSU has been whipped twice by the only two above-average teams they've played. South Carolina is the same sort of team.

We're not a top-ranked team for one reason--D'Onofrio. He's ruining my life, and I want him stopped.

I was thoroughly convinced by the arguments I have read today.

Tim Walton was fired + 2010 FSU Score = FIRE COACH D

zones logic convinces all.

Clemson dropped six spots, we dropped seven. Honestly, I'm surprised we didn't drop worse than that since most found UM very undeserving of the ranking.
