Cam Ward on John Mateer ”I think he’ll end up being one of the best quarterbacks in the country next year”

Nope. I disagree. It’s generally not a good value proposition nowadays. A top HS qb will cost as much if not more than a proven portal QB, but you have no idea how he do against college competition. The money strategy is to find an elite QB in the portal with 2 or more years of eligibility. 3 is like winning the lottery.

A coach can see how he does against college competition and make a better eval. What is important is that the offense always looks productive (which means getting a game ready qb) so that when a qb at a lower tier P4 stands out, he will be interested in transferring to Miami to get on a bigger stage.

What I would like to see is UM get the top qb from the portal, and then a high ceiling productive QB from G5 or even FCS. Pretty much what WSU did when finding Ward. I just don’t see much point in recruiting a mid level 3 star qb out of HS when it’s unrealistic that he will ever get the starting job.
Yes I was looking at the recent years of 5 star QBs and a lot of it is wasted money. Especially for the first school they enroll at.

It’s this guy or fail next season. Everything for us to stay atop the ACC and in the playoff hunt rides on this qb. Pause. If we don’t get him and we get anyone else it will be a bad season in terms of what the fans expect. No matter who it is at qb, with this guy other young players we haven’t seen yet will get to develop. Anyone else at qb next year expect 4-6 losses possibly.

I think that’s why you go with a transfer again. If the beginning of the season was fiu usf fau maybe you ride with Emory
