Calvin Russell III (c/o ‘26)

James Williams, the top ranked Safety in the nation, wasn't the cream of the crop?
I'm not saying we've been fine, but you just unnecessarily downplayed some elite, heavily recruited dudes we've had just because they didn't pan out to a top 3 round grade. Plus its weird that you listed some guys that weren't even the best kid in south florida their year, but you don't want to count guys like Mark Pope who was "the next Amari Cooper" or Chad Thomas who was just as heavily recruited as Shemar Stewart. Lorenzo Lingard was supposed to be a savior and huge win over UF, a classic Mark Richt RB who mimic'd the tradition he had at UGA.

You're so convinced that we don't land these cats...tell me, have we really done so much better recruiting the "cream of the crop" players that AREN'T in south florida? So we should give up on recruiting top 10 players from South Florida because we've done so much better with out of state ones?

Go and look at the top players that we DID land....you'll notice that 40% of the highly recruited ones we DID land (since 2010) just happen to still be from south florida.

Go look at the top #1 unanimous kid from South Florida in each class. We haven't done well is putting it very lightly.

Ok we've landed Mark Pope and Gurvall Halls of the world... Doesn't change what i'm saying. You're more than welcome to go into these battles feeling confident, I'm just not going to be a part of the meltdown.

You're really ignoring a bunch of elite south florida kids for absolutely 0 reason...and before you muster up some dumb **** rebuttal I'll go ahead and list some:

Tracy Howard
Stacey Coley
Ahmmon Richards
Nesta
Mark Pope
Lorenzo Lingard
Gurvan Hall
Leonard Taylor
James Williams
Ruben Bain
Zaquan Patterson

Yes, we have a lot of misses. But we have definitely landed kids that were very highly recruited and considered "can't miss" prospects coming out.
Wasn't Lingard from somewhere near Orlando? Not really SFL at all.

I'm gonna force myself to go into "stoic recruiting mode" for the next few months. If they commit elsewhere "cool 👍🏽", if they commit here "very cool 👍🏽".
Too early in the cycle to get worked up over the choices of current high school Jr's who may or may not stick, may or may not ultimately transfer after a year, may or may not be a star/bust.

At some point Rio gotta win these battles. This the exact player he was brought in to keep. JJ was different, this is direct FAMILY TIES.

Get it done or wtf we doing?

i could be wrong, but russell ain't jeremiah smith ... might be a while before we see that again ...
You aren't wrong. He's not even close to smith. He's not really close to Jojo imo when comparing the tape. He's taller for sure and a really good player but he ain't worth the headache he seems to be creating

We have to start putting first rounders into the league.
Period!!

Everyone’s favorites db for like 20 years was ST26.
And yet the amount of consensus 5 star db’s we’ve landed since Taylor played here is how many?
Howard?

The only position we keep putting in the league consistently is tight end.

The funny part is that we dont even need to land the J Smiths for these kids to want to come.

Sofla has put a lot of receivers that are making plays in the league.

Just land a Zay Flowers and perception changes.

Win and perception changes.
Remember, neither ps2 nor Campbell went to LSU to be coached by Raymond.
Coach Beard has enough credibility and connects with these kids enough that we can overcome them wanting to go to Ohio State or Uga or Oregon.
But we better start winning more than 10 games and winning the acc.

Brady, Russell, Cooper.

Need all 3. Going into year 4. It’s time. This is the top 3-5 class.
Not trying to be a prick but why do we do this every year?

We determine there’s a specific group of recruits that somehow determine our fate when they have barely finished their junior years

And it’s always local kids like there isn’t a huge country full of great football players out there

Coming off last years massive improvement from previous 4 or 5 years… I always said 25/26 would be THE class. These are now the kids Mario has talked to since 8th/9th grade. The relationships are there.

Not saying these 3 (I’d add Flowers in as well) determine the fate…. But do you see UM having a top 5 class next year without them?

To get where we want Miami to be it takes those studs from all over the country AND the ones in our backyard.

I’m with you. Like I said it wasn’t personal towards you but I think 2026 was always a class I had penciled in as well because Mario has had a few years with these guys

Back in like 2023 they would talk about 2026 kids coming to games and visits and fans would be like “Idgaf about 2026 kids” and I’m here thinking man let’s see if this plays out like we hope

Exactly. That’s how I was feeling. It’s not to say we can’t get an elite class without them… I just don’t see it. The build up and relationships that were planted last 2 or 3 years have led to this. We need a playoff run and a top 5 class.

Time to build off decent success for once (flopped in 2010 after 2009, flopped in 2018 after 2017).
