Miami scored a mammoth recruiting victory when it landed C SJ Alofaituli (Las Vegas), a consensus top 75 player in the nation. At 6’2, 290, his short-area quickness, flexibility and toughness make him the ideal center prospect. He spoke with CanesInSight about his commitment:

On why he picked Miami: The academics were amazing, especially for my major business and real estate. I liked how it was hands on. Coach Cristobal and Mirabal showed how much they cared. Coach Mirabal taught me...

That C competition will be good next year and he has legit shot at being a day 1 starter
that's tough as a 280lb frosh ... he'll get bigger and it could happen ... but the body type of our oline is massive and mature ... there's a pic of samson as a frosh vs samson as a redshirt frosh ... night and day ... would love for sj to get that type of nutrition and weight room before we put him on the field

The center we lost to Auburn a couple of classes ago started his freshman year.
So, you expect to find lightning in a bottle? Can it happen, yes, is it likely to happen? It's a low probability option.

How many other positions are we expecting to find lightning in a bottle, DT, CB, QB? You're not likely to fill multiple holes relying on true freshman. We will need another year of hitting the portal hard.

So, is it Tripp’s job next year and SJ is the backup? Do we look for another Portal center to bridge the gap until either Tripp or SJ are ready? Is Rodriquez an option or is he just depth?

Tripp isn't in the center mix right now. Rodriguez is the backup, Nino Francavilla looked good physically in spring and SJ is the future.

Samoans never have an issue gaining mass + strength. Bishop Gorman prepares kids very well. If he's an EE he will easily be 295+ by end of his first summer.

Thanks. Completely forgot about Nino.

We need to “hit” on some of our center recruits and reduce our dependency on the Portal for the position.
