I know this is going to sound completely nuts and I expect some negging. But I think there is a potential role for Butch to come back to Miami. It will require Donna, Blake and the Alumni to show some stones but I think it could be done now that the NCAA fiasco is behind us.

Butch Davis - Director of Player Personnel

Exhibit A: Kevin Steel at Bama - http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/kevin_steele_839042.html

He could be every bit as instrumental to building the program back up but with much less profile. Yeah, I know the press and others would hate. But they are going to hate anyway and we could use Butch's experience and eye for talent.

I think it could be doable. Obviously, there would be challenges and egos but like Dan Hawkins says "[t]his is Division I football! It ain't intermurals!"

Do you know what we went through with the NCAA?

Do you know what he went through with the NCAA at UNC?

Butch did build the best college football team ever. Right here and can be done again. The Alumni has to go for broke like the rest of the top colleges to even compete.

I know. I know. But he built two of the most NFL stacked rosters in a decade. I just think we could use him. I recognize there is baggage but the question is it manageable baggage. I think it is.

The bigger issue, I think, would be between Butch and Golden.

I don't think it matters about whether we could use him or not. The school doesn't want the taint of that around and I didn't even mention he may have a bad relationship with the school.

and with that great resume, and building one of the greatest teams all time....yet no offers, not a peep not a sound...

that says it all.....

In February 2012, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired Davis as a special assistant to newly hired head coach Greg Schiano. The terms of Davis' settlement with the University of North Carolina prevented him from taking a coaching position, and he was instead hired as an advisor to Schiano, who was the defensive coordinator under Davis at the University of Miami.[14

People don't want to touch him because he was linked to the taint. He never was linked to any violation at UNC either. I am curious if FIU or FAU reached out to him.

See the admin firing Golden and company (which has about a zero percent chance of occurring) before I see them bringing Butch back as a middle man between Golden and the AD.

Really, the broader conversation is probably whether we could find and utilize a position such as Kevin Steele's at Bama. To have someone like that who can just recruit (and when I say "recruit" I mean athletes, their families, coaches, friends, boosters, etc.) is huge. Maybe Butch isn't the guy. But I still wonder with all of our NFL alumni, whether we couldn't use someone like that.

That Bama is able to have someone like Steele, who should be a head coach somewhere, just out there recruiting and organizing recruiting is a standard of excellence we should strive towards.

Of course we could use that, we could always use that.

Word has Butch returning in a dual capacity . . . teaching a freshman ethics course while serving as the athletic department's rules compliance officer. Both would be new and challenging positions.

I laughed.

.....should have been hired after '06........but Donna went cheap and liberal, and now we are in purgatory.

said my top 2 would be Butch and Ed O, but both aren't going to happen.
