Business decisions

The "business decision" rationale fails with Hartley at TE coach. He's "developed" no one, yet he destroys people on the recruiting trail. Don't tell me about the past with TEU because we have put out more top DBs over the years than TEs.

School history obviously resonates with the kids, and Hartley's first two TEs will get drafted (one in the first round).

Easy sell.

School history? Take a look at all the DBs we've put in the NFL. It's a failed argument, but go ahead and dig your heels in.

Hartley's done NOTHING as a football coach to warrant the benefit of any "business decisions." You can't say, yeah but we're TEU and then ignore all the DBs we've put in the league.

Fact is Hartley's a demon recruiter, and Rumph isn't. There are great recruiters, decent recruiters and bad recruiters just like any other type of job. Rumph is on the bottom end of bad.

D$'s my brother from another mother, but I'm not with this one at all. To be where we want to be, we need to, at some point, land a kid like TC. What better time than the guy who's coached him since he was a kid? I don't think any amount of optimism resolves that question.

The only thing with Rumph is I cant understand how hes such a good coach (this isnt debatable) but cant recruit worth a ****. I thought it would be the opposite when we hired him. This guy really is horrible at recruiting. But its not like you can fire him..he can coach his a$$ off. What he has done with MJ, Bandy and did with MYoung is impressive. Two 3* and a 4* and he has made them big time players.

Compare rumph college resume too smart or saban.

Compare the first two years of Rumph's college resume to to the first two years of Saban's or Smart's resumes.

Seriously, are people on this board THAT DUMB?

Saban's first two years as a Defensive Backs coach were at West Virginia. In 1978 and 1979. Who are the great defensive backs that he "recruited" and "developed" at West Virginia?

Smart's first two years as a Defensive Backs coach/Defensive Coordinator were at Valdosta State. In 2000 and 2001. Who are the great defensive backs that he "recruited" and "developed" at Valdosta State?

Look, if people want to criticize Richt for giving Rumph his first college job, that's up to you.

But to compare apples to oranges by putting Rumph's "resume" next to that of Saban and Smart is just idiotic.

Saban has been coaching SINCE THE SEVENTIES. Smart started coaching IN THE NINETIES. Rumph's resume will be just as good, if not better, with a few more years, but if a 17 year old kid can't figure out the difference between a young and upcoming coach with only 2 years of college coaching (but who was a first round draft choice) and guys with decades of coaching experience, then f*** them.

If Campbell and Surtain want to go with more experienced coaches, that is up to them. But for our fans to unload their bowels on Rumph is just ridiculous. Nobody said that Rumph was a great recruiter, BECAUSE HE NEVER DID IT BEFORE HE WAS HIRED. But he is doing a great job of teaching and developing our DBs, and he will only get better with the better talent of the 2018 class.

and that was my complaint from day 1 and I was called a "basher" at the time. The fact that makes this stuff so hard to swallow is it was so ****ing predictable. I mean, mind numbingly easy to predict. Well, with everyone but Richt apparently.

UM isn't (or shouldn't be) a training ground for coaches. Rumph should have put in the time grinding out in the lower levels just like 99% of other successful college coaches....but no, Richt hires him to secure the AH kids and he fails epic. Would be funny if it weren't so predictable.

correct. and if richt had hired him to be a Graduate Assistant, while he learned how to coach, that's ok. but he's in over his head.

What started Clemson's upward recruiting trend.

Dabo Swinney never signed a class as highly ranked as this one in his entire career.

The one he's signing this year is unquestionably superior to ours. They've signed FIVE five-star recruits and landed an elite haul in the trenches.

Blue-chip ratio > class size. We didn't belong on the same field as Clemson in the ACC title game and the gap just widened in large part because we're not winning enough battles for premier talent from our backyard.

I expect to see people calling for Rumph's head. I don't agree at all, but I get the reaction. Losing those two monsters from his old school was a failure. I also expect to see the usual suspects complaining about South Florida kids choosing to leave town.

Here is the hard truth. If your son is an engineering prodigy, you can't blame him for going to MIT. Alabama and Georgia were in the championship. Saban is the best DB coach alive. These kids want to win championships and go pro.

We need to become the business decision for DBs. That takes time. Nesta Silvera made his own business decision to sign with the best defensive line coach in America. Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory made business decisions to sign with TEU. Jarren Williams made a business decision to sign with a proven developer of QBs.

This is a big-time class. Best offensive class in the nation and very good defensive group. Nesta was the guy keeping me up at night. Him and Ezzard are nasty human beings. Jordan Miller was a gift from the nose tackle Gods. Bethel will be next development project for Rumph. Mike Jackson and Adrian Colbert turned out pretty well.

Richt is one of the most proven recruiters in America, along with Saban and Urban. This class is another feather in his cap.

The problem I have with this...is that...these two HAD and or HAVE a personal relationship WITH the DB's coach at the HOME school!!......these cats would go pro with any school...not just Bama or GA.....there is NO local pride....especially since these guys have been recruited the past 2 years...only at Miami....a school known for producing NFL hall of famers where guys from that area dont want to go to......all I keep hearing is "business decisions" Bama wasnt known for DB's nor is GA....why they keep getting the 5 stars from out of state.....

Simple, Bama, UGA, Clemson, OSU and others are still perceived as the better programs.

We are making our way back, but have to get over a hurdle or two.

Our end of the season, that certainly didn't help. I think had we won the Pitt game as well as our bowl game, we would've had a better shot at some of the AH guys.

Watch the defense this year. If anyone thinks Diaz is more competent than whoever at OSU, Bama, Clemson, UGA....let me know. Diaz will have to prove he's not a busy this year and his job got a lot harder without Surtain and Campbell.

They're not PERCIEVED as better programs.... they ARE better programs.

They win more and recruit better. We did nothing today to close that gap.

When our TE commits are constantly tweeting #TEU and #BusinessDecision, their mindsets are pretty clear.

And Hartley has already produced a first round TE and another guy who will get picked.

D$, so what business decision was made last year by all those guys that signed with a 5 loss uga team? Bottom line is if the DB coach has to be proven in order to sign kids then we should have hired a proven DB coach. Total and utter fail by Rumph. No two ways about it.

On to spring!

Which of UM's 2017 recruits did we lose to UGa? Are you seriously trying to shed tears over Latavious Brini?

Last year, after his first year, Kirby convinced a bunch of Georgia kids to sign with Georgia. Big deal. That has NO IMPACT on Miami at all.

He coached Corn Elder from an inconsistent athlete to an elite football player. He coached Adrian Colbert from a future desk job to a rising star NFL DB. He coached Mike Jackson from an attrition candidate into a preseason All-Conference player. Losing those kids was a failure. A big one. But you get fired for bad results on the field. That hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will with studs like Gilbert Frierson, Al Blades and DJ Ivey

Elder was already really good before he got here. I don't think he improved drastically in his one year under RumF. Colbert did well. Could be his skillset combined with a change of scenery/scheme or it could be coaching.. Who knows?! Mike Jackson might have just been undervalued by Canes fan. I don't put too much stock into a select player here or there improving.. especially when others are regressing. You can't just take the good and throw out the bad or vice versa. His resume is suspect at best.

These kids made business decisions when they chose their high school, and you have folks questioning them for making a college business decision? Maybe it's our uncompetitive youth leagues or the fact our players are inferior to south Florida kids, but you don't see these type of "business decisions" coming from kids in the peach state.

Recruits aren't researching and studying that stuff. They're going with the guys they like the best. UGA destroyed us on Campbell. Absolutely killed us.

In the last 2 years, there have been 6 kids from Dade and Broward who were ranked in the top 10 in the state. We signed zero. If you include 2016 as well, even though this staff only had 2 months, there were another 3. So in in the last 3 years, there have been a total of 9 kids from Dade & Broward ranked in the top 10 in the state and we signed 0.

In the last 2 years, we have signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 in the state. If you include 2016, we still only signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 in the state of Florida over a 3 year period.

So, over 3 years we have not signed a single kid from Dade or Broward who was ranked in the top in the state. And we have signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 of the state over the same period of time.

Just pointing out facts, nothing else. But, if you want to compete with the BAMA's, CLEMSON's and now UGA's of the world, the first step you need to take is lock down ELITE talent in your very own backyard in and in your state. Yeah, a number 5 or 6 recruiting class is great, but you still cannot whiff on this amount of talent in your own backyard and state and ever expect to compete with the big boys. Especially considering that this staff is not elite.

this is pretty damning

This is honestly a problem with more than just Rumph. Jon Richt shouldn’t have his first job here at 25 as a full fledged coach. Our staff is green as **** outside of Kool and Searels and Richt himself

Facts are in the Top 100 in the State of Florida, we signed 11, which is the most in the state by any school. Did you say a Top 5 class is cool, but you can't whiff. What?? LOL!!! If we keep getting TOP 5 classes, we're going to be exactly where all of us want to be ol

Well said. It will be a long process but like I said I think Richt is building it right with getting involved with the youth programs. Two years ago I was in Miami for my bachelor party FSU week. Me and my boys were eating on ocean and some kids came up to us with candy bars asking if we could support their youth team. Of course we all said yes and I said "Its all about the U. Yall gonna be future canes right?" What do you think they said? " Na bama, Im goin to bama, my cousin goes there" Once we consistently have the buzz we had this season and compete for the Playoffs along with Richt building those relationships, SFL 5 stars will stay home.

Maybe Bama but UGa nah... maybe Richt recruiting Sony Michel to UGa came back to bite him.

But it really shouldn't be that deep. PS2 and TC had a chance of really being treated like celebs as a trio with Nesta. The campus environment argument is bs. Julio isn't famous bc he went to Bama, it's bc hes balling in the league.

So many players get bought to go to Bama nobody cares when their time is up.... just ask Dre Kirkpatrick, says he never goes back to Tuscaloosa bc they don't want to see his *** back riding around town in a nice car.

Players that play for Miami always get identified and admired just bc they played at Miami... the mental make up of South Florida dbs is pathetic. Has nothing to do with Miami "not being back" its a bunch of head cases that are so simple minded and get easily enamored with the SEC hype like a bunch of school girl groupies
