Business decisions

I expect to see people calling for Rumph's head. I don't agree at all, but I get the reaction. Losing those two monsters from his old school was a failure. I also expect to see the usual suspects complaining about South Florida kids choosing to leave town.

Here is the hard truth. If your son is an engineering prodigy, you can't blame him for going to MIT. Alabama and Georgia were in the championship. Saban is the best DB coach alive. These kids want to win championships and go pro.

We need to become the business decision for DBs. That takes time. Nesta Silvera made his own business decision to sign with the best defensive line coach in America. Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory made business decisions to sign with TEU. Jarren Williams made a business decision to sign with a proven developer of QBs.

This is a big-time class. Best offensive class in the nation and very good defensive group. Nesta was the guy keeping me up at night. Him and Ezzard are nasty human beings. Jordan Miller was a gift from the nose tackle Gods. Bethel will be next development project for Rumph. Mike Jackson and Adrian Colbert turned out pretty well.

Richt is one of the most proven recruiters in America, along with Saban and Urban. This class is another feather in his cap.

Perfect post D$ ... still after today I feel kinda like this video... a little funny, a little confused, set back and encouraged all in one... bottom line... all hands now on deck for 2018!!!

This is a big

I don't care what kind of offense you have when the offense you run is old and antiquated. We have no movement at all on our offense. It's anemic. LOL. Our defense...it's a sieve, look at how many yards people were running for against us. We made Wisconsin look like the NE Patriots.

D$.. Dude.. U just defended Rumph.. Our CB coach.. with offensive players, a last minute DT pickup, a transfer CB & a DT who swore he was on flip watch.. without out naming any CB recurits he's signed. Come on man..

I understand, but I’m tired of hearing this every year after we miss on a top local. To whiff on both is pathetic.

Just sign Chatman though and I’m good with today.

You argument is a fail. So why couldn't we close on Colburt or another blue chip DT with Kool?.

What brought all those studs to Ole Miss. What started Clemson's upward recruiting trend.

You gotta play the game and pay to get the premium talent. No excuses. We recruited a gazillion Wrs. Why couldn't we keep home one 5 star DB from a local school that used to be coached by our current DB coach?

We failed on Jobe, Surtain & Campbell and we even put Jobe up at a prep school.

D$ trying to explain away the unexplainable. Never mind our defense and secondary looked like complete **** down the stretch last year. AND LOL at Rumph taking credit for Corn Elder success or even Michael Jackson. Jackson go some burn as a TRUE freshman. Colbert was a 5th year Sr. and was put in position to succeed in our defensive scheme. His skill has shown out in the NFL. Sorry but I'm not giving Rumph ANY benefit of any doubt. He should be fired on the spot. DB coahces in college should be about stacking chips. It's about 75% of the job imo and he's god awful at it.

Yeah he makes it look like Rumph is Nick Saban. Some of Colbert & Corn's success were due to the fact that we finally started playing an aggressive screen.

so pretty much we have to wait for saban to die then?

no. we just need to reset expectations. we are good. with right coaching we will be consistently good. but we'll never be great.

agree we may never be great, we can be real good though

In the last 2 years, there have been 6 kids from Dade and Broward who were ranked in the top 10 in the state. We signed zero. If you include 2016 as well, even though this staff only had 2 months, there were another 3. So in in the last 3 years, there have been a total of 9 kids from Dade & Broward ranked in the top 10 in the state and we signed 0.

In the last 2 years, we have signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 in the state. If you include 2016, we still only signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 in the state of Florida over a 3 year period.

So, over 3 years we have not signed a single kid from Dade or Broward who was ranked in the top in the state. And we have signed 1 kid ranked in the top 10 of the state over the same period of time.

Just pointing out facts, nothing else. But, if you want to compete with the BAMA's, CLEMSON's and now UGA's of the world, the first step you need to take is lock down ELITE talent in your very own backyard in and in your state. Yeah, a number 5 or 6 recruiting class is great, but you still cannot whiff on this amount of talent in your own backyard and state and ever expect to compete with the big boys. Especially considering that this staff is not elite.

F you if you defending rump not only after this class but all the others. He flopped all 3 times. What was the point of hiring a highschool coach if he cant even close the kids he qctually coached LMAO

If you are dumb enough to think that a Power 5 school hires one of its 9 position coaches solely to get one recruit 3 years down the road, then you need to delete your log-in information immediately.

The only thing with Rumph is I cant understand how hes such a good coach (this isnt debatable) but cant recruit worth a ****. I thought it would be the opposite when we hired him. This guy really is horrible at recruiting. But its not like you can fire him..he can coach his a$$ off. What he has done with MJ, Bandy and did with MYoung is impressive. Two 3* and a 4* and he has made them big time players.

Compare rumph college resume too smart or saban.

Compare the first two years of Rumph's college resume to to the first two years of Saban's or Smart's resumes.

Seriously, are people on this board THAT DUMB?

Saban's first two years as a Defensive Backs coach were at West Virginia. In 1978 and 1979. Who are the great defensive backs that he "recruited" and "developed" at West Virginia?

Smart's first two years as a Defensive Backs coach/Defensive Coordinator were at Valdosta State. In 2000 and 2001. Who are the great defensive backs that he "recruited" and "developed" at Valdosta State?

Look, if people want to criticize Richt for giving Rumph his first college job, that's up to you.

But to compare apples to oranges by putting Rumph's "resume" next to that of Saban and Smart is just idiotic.

Saban has been coaching SINCE THE SEVENTIES. Smart started coaching IN THE NINETIES. Rumph's resume will be just as good, if not better, with a few more years, but if a 17 year old kid can't figure out the difference between a young and upcoming coach with only 2 years of college coaching (but who was a first round draft choice) and guys with decades of coaching experience, then f*** them.

If Campbell and Surtain want to go with more experienced coaches, that is up to them. But for our fans to unload their bowels on Rumph is just ridiculous. Nobody said that Rumph was a great recruiter, BECAUSE HE NEVER DID IT BEFORE HE WAS HIRED. But he is doing a great job of teaching and developing our DBs, and he will only get better with the better talent of the 2018 class.

and that was my complaint from day 1 and I was called a "basher" at the time. The fact that makes this stuff so hard to swallow is it was so ******* predictable. I mean, mind numbingly easy to predict. Well, with everyone but Richt apparently.

UM isn't (or shouldn't be) a training ground for coaches. Rumph should have put in the time grinding out in the lower levels just like 99% of other successful college coaches....but no, Richt hires him to secure the AH kids and he fails epic. Would be funny if it weren't so predictable.

Get the **** outta here with this soft *** take Rumph was brought here to recruit and recruit only he serves 0 purpose on this staff Now

He was hired to coach. He coached Corn Elder from an inconsistent athlete to an elite football player. He coached Adrian Colbert from a future desk job to a rising star NFL DB. He coached Mike Jackson from an attrition candidate into a preseason All-Conference player.

Losing those kids was a failure. A big one. But you get fired for bad results on the field. That hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will with studs like Gilbert Frierson, Al Blades and DJ Ivey.

Did you see our DBs get worked all game by Wisconsin’s receivers?

it wasn't just wisconsin. the last three games were appalling.

rumph has some skills, but he's not elite and his deficiencies can't be overcome.

D$'s my brother from another mother, but I'm not with this one at all. To be where we want to be, we need to, at some point, land a kid like TC. What better time than the guy who's coached him since he was a kid? I don't think any amount of optimism resolves that question.

Simple, Bama, UGA, Clemson, OSU and others are still perceived as the better programs.

We are making our way back, but have to get over a hurdle or two.

Our end of the season, that certainly didn't help. I think had we won the Pitt game as well as our bowl game, we would've had a better shot at some of the AH guys.

Watch the defense this year. If anyone thinks Diaz is more competent than whoever at OSU, Bama, Clemson, UGA....let me know. Diaz will have to prove he's not a busy this year and his job got a lot harder without Surtain and Campbell.

bama lost campbell to georgia.

georgia lost surtain to bama

georgia lost frierson to miami

bama lost hall to miami

yup.

GTFO.

Shadow you are the gayest homer on here. You deserve to be banned for all the nonsense responses of "It ain't signing day yet".

You of all people have been watching us recruit the last 15 years or so. You should know better.

This has become an annual post. Until we no longer see this post we will not be on the track to being back.

We've gotten stronger up the middle the past two years at the DT and Guards spots build inside out on o and d and we'll be fine

We need to become the business decision for DBs. .

So what's the plan? We gonna hope and pray for good things, or are we gonna go out and hire a proven DB coach who makes the business decision easy for recruits?
