Business decisions

Get the **** outta here with this soft *** take Rumph was brought here to recruit and recruit only he serves 0 purpose on this staff Now

He was hired to coach. He coached Corn Elder from an inconsistent athlete to an elite football player. He coached Adrian Colbert from a future desk job to a rising star NFL DB. He coached Mike Jackson from an attrition candidate into a preseason All-Conference player.

Losing those kids was a failure. A big one. But you get fired for bad results on the field. That hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will with studs like Gilbert Frierson, Al Blades and DJ Ivey.

I believe you get fired for a failure to perform your responsibilities.
One of the major aspects of his job is recruiting. Recruit them then coach them.

He's failing miserably at one of the major areas of his job.

Lol pathetic. We have a coach at a position of Need who can't recruit with the big boys. Get Rumph out of my face. I think Wisconsin just threw another touchdown.

Lmaooo our fans are funny. Everyone does not want to be canes or stay in there Home town. But that’s the coaches fault

The "business decision" rationale fails with Hartley at TE coach. He's "developed" no one, yet he destroys people on the recruiting trail. Don't tell me about the past with TEU because we have put out more top DBs over the years than TEs.
just another bullshi.t excuse . Yea Tyler Byrd made a business decision to go be coached by (who?) at Tennesse . Mf didn’t even play

Rumph probably has the worst success rate at recruiting the school he was the coach at of any other high school head coaches who got hired to college. I don’t have the stats but I can’t imagine someone missing on their former players with the consistency that he has.

On top of that, these recruits have implied that they trust other schools coaches to develop them better than Rumph, that’s damning criticism coming from your former players.

The entire defensive staff have done a really poor job recruiting. They are constantly complaining about numbers but then don’t recruit at the level needed to fix the situation. I don’t want to hear any more complaints about the numbers from Manny, it’s his fault at this point.

Last year we were short on TEs, RBs and WRs, look at what the offensive staff did with those positions, they filled them with studs, no excuse for the defensive staff.

I know that Rumph isn’t going to get fired and Richt is loyal to his staff. But this was supposed to be the year of the DBs and while we did get some good ones and have a good class of them in total we were forced to settle for a guy like Bethel, who may end up being a good player but was not the type of recruit we were envisioning last year when talking about this years DB class.

Anyways, the class as a whole is really good, especially the offensive side. It’s just hard not to be disappointed today with how we finished here.

The only thing with Rumph is I cant understand how hes such a good coach (this isnt debatable) but cant recruit worth a ****. I thought it would be the opposite when we hired him. This guy really is horrible at recruiting. But its not like you can fire him..he can coach his a$$ off. What he has done with MJ, Bandy and did with MYoung is impressive. Two 3* and a 4* and he has made them big time players.

Compare rumph college resume too smart or saban.

Compare the first two years of Rumph's college resume to to the first two years of Saban's or Smart's resumes.

Seriously, are people on this board THAT DUMB?

Saban's first two years as a Defensive Backs coach were at West Virginia. In 1978 and 1979. Who are the great defensive backs that he "recruited" and "developed" at West Virginia?

Smart's first two years as a Defensive Backs coach/Defensive Coordinator were at Valdosta State. In 2000 and 2001. Who are the great defensive backs that he "recruited" and "developed" at Valdosta State?

Look, if people want to criticize Richt for giving Rumph his first college job, that's up to you.

But to compare apples to oranges by putting Rumph's "resume" next to that of Saban and Smart is just idiotic.

Saban has been coaching SINCE THE SEVENTIES. Smart started coaching IN THE NINETIES. Rumph's resume will be just as good, if not better, with a few more years, but if a 17 year old kid can't figure out the difference between a young and upcoming coach with only 2 years of college coaching (but who was a first round draft choice) and guys with decades of coaching experience, then f*** them.

If Campbell and Surtain want to go with more experienced coaches, that is up to them. But for our fans to unload their bowels on Rumph is just ridiculous. Nobody said that Rumph was a great recruiter, BECAUSE HE NEVER DID IT BEFORE HE WAS HIRED. But he is doing a great job of teaching and developing our DBs, and he will only get better with the better talent of the 2018 class.

I expect to see people calling for Rumph's head. I don't agree at all, but I get the reaction. Losing those two monsters from his old school was a failure. I also expect to see the usual suspects complaining about South Florida kids choosing to leave town.

Here is the hard truth. If your son is an engineering prodigy, you can't blame him for going to MIT. Alabama and Georgia were in the championship. Saban is the best DB coach alive. These kids want to win championships and go pro.

We need to become the business decision for DBs. That takes time. Nesta Silvera made his own business decision to sign with the best defensive line coach in America. Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory made business decisions to sign with TEU. Jarren Williams made a business decision to sign with a proven developer of QBs.

This is a big-time class. Best offensive class in the nation and very good defensive group. Nesta was the guy keeping me up at night. Him and Ezzard are nasty human beings. Jordan Miller was a gift from the nose tackle Gods. Bethel will be next development project for Rumph. Mike Jackson and Adrian Colbert turned out pretty well.

Richt is one of the most proven recruiters in America, along with Saban and Urban. This class is another feather in his cap.

You argument is a fail. So why couldn't we close on Colburt or another blue chip DT with Kool?.

What brought all those studs to Ole Miss. What started Clemson's upward recruiting trend.

You gotta play the game and pay to get the premium talent. No excuses. We recruited a gazillion Wrs. Why couldn't we keep home one 5 star DB from a local school that used to be coached by our current DB coach?

We failed on Jobe, Surtain & Campbell and we even put Jobe up at a prep school.

D$ trying to explain away the unexplainable. Never mind our defense and secondary looked like complete **** down the stretch last year. AND LOL at Rumph taking credit for Corn Elder success or even Michael Jackson. Jackson go some burn as a TRUE freshman. Colbert was a 5th year Sr. and was put in position to succeed in our defensive scheme. His skill has shown out in the NFL. Sorry but I'm not giving Rumph ANY benefit of any doubt. He should be fired on the spot. DB coahces in college should be about stacking chips. It's about 75% of the job imo and he's god awful at it.

The "business decision" rationale fails with Hartley at TE coach. He's "developed" no one, yet he destroys people on the recruiting trail. Don't tell me about the past with TEU because we have put out more top DBs over the years than TEs.

School history obviously resonates with the kids, and Hartley's first two TEs will get drafted (one in the first round).

Easy sell.

Elite level spinning going on . Jeremiah Payton doesn’t play TE and he named Hartley as his top recruiter out of everyone

This this and this.

I don’t hate Rumph like some guys but something is wrong everywhere on d but dline. What rep does Hartley and Dugans have? Not like Saban, but they seem to be yanking whoever they want.

Diaz, Rumph and Banda......I’m watchin u guys

so pretty much we have to wait for saban to die then?

no. we just need to reset expectations. we are good. with right coaching we will be consistently good. but we'll never be great.

D$ I concur

If I'm an elite CB/DB and I look at Miami's DB/CB play this year I am wondering about our coaching. If I see Wisconsin WRs make our secondary look silly then I wonder even more about our coaching. Not a shock that you lose top secondary recruits to demonstrably better coached secondary schools.

The business decision may not be recruiting but coaching changes. Better secondary coaching.

Interesting because I look at the Wisconsin WRs beating our CBs and think "****, how did Rumph mask that lack of talent for so long?"
