Business decisions

I expect to see people calling for Rumph's head. I don't agree at all, but I get the reaction. Losing those two monsters from his old school was a failure. I also expect to see the usual suspects complaining about South Florida kids choosing to leave town.

Here is the hard truth. If your son is an engineering prodigy, you can't blame him for going to MIT. Alabama and Georgia were in the championship. Saban is the best DB coach alive. These kids want to win championships and go pro.

We need to become the business decision for DBs. That takes time. Nesta Silvera made his own business decision to sign with the best defensive line coach in America. Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory made business decisions to sign with TEU. Jarren Williams made a business decision to sign with a proven developer of QBs.

This is a big-time class. Best offensive class in the nation and very good defensive group. Nesta was the guy keeping me up at night. Him and Ezzard are nasty human beings. Jordan Miller was a gift from the nose tackle Gods. Bethel will be next development project for Rumph. Mike Jackson and Adrian Colbert turned out pretty well.

Richt is one of the most proven recruiters in America, along with Saban and Urban. This class is another feather in his cap.

so pretty much we have to wait for saban to die then?

Isn't that what everyone else in CFB is doing?

Elite, five-star CBs from our backyard aren't going to make "business decisions" to come play for Rumph. Campbell and Surtain, who've had longstanding relationships with Rumph for many years, just made that abundantly clear. If they won't stay home to play for him with the relationships that were formed, no one will.

We're landing ballers with Miami ties like Blades and Frierson as well as the rare player who would sign here no matter which coaches are in place like Bandy. We're getting skull f***** by the SEC in contested battles and just lost the two best CBs to come out of South Florida since this staff arrived.

There should be no one defending Rumph at this point. Any excuses made in his defense after this embarrassment at Heritage would be Golden-esque. Unless we want to go through this once again a year from now with Stevenson and Dent, it's time to make a change.

The only thing with Rumph is I cant understand how hes such a good coach (this isnt debatable) but cant recruit worth a ****. I thought it would be the opposite when we hired him. This guy really is horrible at recruiting. But its not like you can fire him..he can coach his a$$ off. What he has done with MJ, Bandy and did with MYoung is impressive. Two 3* and a 4* and he has made them big time players.

Compare rumph college resume too smart or saban.

And Kirby to get hemorrhoids, because he's cleaning up pretty well himself

Unfortunately, this business lends itself to the "What have you done for me lately?" mentality.

In Rumph's case, his job is two pronged, recruiting and player development.

He has failed massively at one of those. How can you justify keeping your job if you're only good at 50% of it?

I'm sure there is a DB coach out there with similar SoFla ties who can successfully recruit AND develop players at the level that Rumph currently is

I'm sure Rumph is a good dude, but being a "good guy" in this business only gets you so far

This!

Rumph completely whiffed at AH he has coached TC for years even before AH. He gave Surtain a job at AH and made him his successor yet he couldn’t get these 2 kids which he obviously had the family’s of each of them trust. It’s pathetic and he needs to be held accountable.

The buck has to stop somewhere, right? 2 kids from the school he used to coach, local kids, don't end up signing here. Spin it how you want, but how is this not considered a failure at your job?

This just isn't something that can be accepted, no matter how well some believe Rumph can coach what he has up. We should be seeking coaches that can do both.

Here goes more ppl excusing the lack of loyalty to Miami. People make it so easy for Saban to continue to cherry pick talent. Now you will start doing the same for Kirby

My only real concern is the current state of the position on the team. We should be ok for next year, but the year after? Thats a mess. Unless we bat 1.000 with this current group of kids. and they will all have to play. I mean you look at the current roster and unless we get a couple of transfers we are screwed. We need bodies and I see one prospect on the '19 page in Jaden Davis. So what I need to hear is that there are another two to three kids that we will get next year that will soften the blow. I am not the type to cry over a recruit or two missed. It is what it is. However, what are they doing about it? And who is available? What is the Grad transfer situation looking like? Juco situation? Don't give me the ok speech and not give me options or its not actually ok..

Whats the love affair with rumph i dont get it

He needs to go he brings nothing to the table

Here's the real issue.

Rumph is a great coach. But he has only been a college coach for a short time. We all know that Saban and Smart have LONGER (not necessarily "better", but LONGER) resumes with developing DBs. That is fair. But thus far, Rumph has been taking "Garbage In" and turning it into guys who might actually be able to turn pro early. It can only get better when Rumph has better raw material to work with.

But the faith and trust has to start sometime. Some of these blue-chippers have to acknowledge that a top-quality position coach doesn't need a 10-year resume. I believe that Rumph's development of this current recruiting class will be the turning point to get 5-star DBs to start choosing UM over UGa and Alabama.

People calling for Rumph to be fired are idiots. We may need to hire one more coach who is better at recruiting than teaching, but Rumph is doing great at what he was hired to do, teach DBs. Banda can recruit, Rumph can develop. Neither one is outstanding at the other guy's key skill.

But Rumph needs to build the rep that Kuligowski already has. It will take another year or two, but it will happen.

Come on D$ that’s a bull**** post about Rumph, he’s struck out the last two classes. That’s unacceptable.

Yup.

When you delve deeper into the connections it makes the misses that much more disgraceful.

Good recruiters make things happen. The defensive coaches had more on field success to sell and they were outclassed by the offensive guys.

Get the **** outta here with this soft *** take Rumph was brought here to recruit and recruit only he serves 0 purpose on this staff Now

He was hired to coach. He coached Corn Elder from an inconsistent athlete to an elite football player. He coached Adrian Colbert from a future desk job to a rising star NFL DB. He coached Mike Jackson from an attrition candidate into a preseason All-Conference player.

Losing those kids was a failure. A big one. But you get fired for bad results on the field. That hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will with studs like Gilbert Frierson, Al Blades and DJ Ivey.

Did you see our DBs get worked all game by Wisconsin’s receivers?
