Prior to the NLA 7-on-7 Tournament, not many people had heard about 2015 Athlete Shawn Burgess-Becker from Monarch (Fla.) High School. A strong showing at the event over the weekend has put him squarely on the map.

Burgess-Becker is a main contributor on his high school team too, as he plays both offense and defense.

“The past season went well really good. I had five interceptions and about 63 tackles and I really helped out on offense.”

Burgess-Becker doesn’t seem to have a preference to either position but simply does what asked of his team.

“It doesn’t matter to me, wherever the team needs me that’s what I will play for them.”

The Monarch product stands at 6’2 185 and says his best skill happens to be his speed.

“I have good speed so I would say that’s my best skill. I also have good hands so that too.”

As far as recruiting goes, the versatile athlete hasnt' spoken to many schools but does have two schools he likes in mind.

“I haven’t been talking to any schools yet. I just got noticed at this 7-on-7. I like Miami and I like Florida.”

Burgess-Becker has a serious interest in the ‘Canes and cites the atmosphere around the campus.

“I took a tour down there and the campus is really nice. I also like the atmosphere around Miami.”

Burgess-Becker is planning on attending one of the Miami Camps during the summer to hopefully gain an offer.

Burgess-Becker has noticed the trending performance Miami has had which is led by Coach Al Golden and seems to appreciate his efforts.

“I think he is a very good coach, considering the job he has done recruiting this year I think he has done a great job.”

While Burgess-Becker does not have a timetable yet for a decision, when asked what he will give a school he was very straight forward.

“They're going to get a guy that can work hard, not only on the field but also off-the-field. “

When asked who his favorite player was, Burgess-Becker gave an answer most Miami fans might agree with.

“ I grew up a big fan of Sean Taylor growing up, but now I like Travis Benjamin.”
