One of the most intriguing things in all of college football is that this guy isn't a head coach somewhere.
And please don't tell me he's waiting for the VT job. He's been a DC for them for 17+ years

I mean does VT have dirt on this guy? Why stay in Blacksburg fcking virginia for that long when you've clearly proven yourself.

Some people do it for the love of there game, not everyone is a mercenary for the highest bidder. Maybe hes got family or friends or whatever there?

Over the years you hear he dosen't interview well. Not everyone is cut out to be head coach.

Maybe some people, but according to this article from last year, Bud Foster is not one of them:

Virginia Tech’s Bud Foster discusses head coaching carousel
By Mark Giannotto
It’s that time of the year again for Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster, when he’s mentioned as a candidate in just about every head coaching search. But even though a wave of jobs have opened up in the past few days, Foster said Monday neither he nor his agent have been contacted about any head coach opening yet.

The upheaval this year, though, has even taken Foster by surprise, and prompted him to call his profession “a crazy business.” Already there are openings at BCS conference schools like Penn State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, UCLA, Illinois, Kansas, Arizona State and Washington State, not to mention several jobs in mid-major conferences.

It’s unlikely Foster would leave Blacksburg for another defensive coordinator position because of an $800,000 deferred compensation package he’s due if he remains employed at Virginia Tech through the 2014 football season. But Coach Frank Beamer’s longtime assistant yearns for a chance to prove he can lead his own program.

This season might be Foster’s best work as his unit ranks amongst the top 12 in the nation in most defensive categories despite losing three opening day starters to season-ending injuries.

“He’s earned his pay this year,” Beamer said this week.

On Monday, Foster offered a glimpse into what sort of head coaching gig he’s looking for, openly discussing the vacancies at Memphis and Akron. Both fired their coaches after just two seasons and the Hokies defensive coordinator labeled the two schools as “coach killers” right now.

“Their administration is crazy,” Foster said. “They’ve got false visions of grandeur.”

Looks to me like he is (understandably) picky about where he would be willing to be a HC.

Haha life ain't all about money my ***...Foster makes more than some head coaches. If he was making $225k it would all of a suddenly be about the money. As stated, he makes a ton, has an incredibly low amount of pressure relative to a head coach, lives an area where the cost of living is low, the list goes on...

Being a head coach is a completely different animal. He obviously isn't interested.

The only coach I can think of at the moment who is turning down millions for family reasons is Chris Peterson.

He has been mentioned as a candidate every year for at least 8 years. He interviews, was supposedly a leading candidate for a few jobs, but always gets passed over. My bet is that while he is certainly a great coordinator, he reminds a lot of people of Shannon, Coker, and/or Solich as a head coach.

You think other schools even think about and consider that? The Shannon/Coker remark?
And Solich? Dude is a good HC.

Frank Solich isn't a bad coach...just not a coach for a traditional power like Nebraska...some just aren't made for that level. However, he's turned Ohio into a heckuva mid-level program.
