Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said third-round rookie Brandon Linder will likely open the season as the starting right guard or center.

He learned to play every position in high school. I think he was the top rated center out of high school too.

Brandon was the #1 ranked center on scout and the #3 ranked center on rivals.

Alot of people dont realize it but Linder was very solid for us throughtout his career at the U. Nick comes from a good stock.

His best position is actually center. I wish we would have played him at center last year.

Linder was very solid here. That was always widely recognized. I think there are very few people who don't know that.

Congrats Brandon! We have another Linder in our ****nal, hope he turns out just as well.

I think this about all our lineman the last few years, as much flack as he got off the field, Seantrel was another who held his own on it. Though they were never dominate our lines have been solid, Stoutland did a good job bringing in quality kids, I hope we dont slip back into bringing in projects and hoping to hit on every single one. That + kehoe seems to have been a recipe for disaster nearly a decade ago...

Come on, man. It's the NFL. They draft or mold attributes into the skill set they wish to utilize for their schemes. If you look at any pre-draft discussion (on this board) about Linder, you'll see dozens of posts about how he'd likely play C or G in a scheme with a lot of zone blocking. That's what the Jags do. If anything, you could say "Golden's decision to bring in O-Coordinators who ran a lot of stretch and zone schemes led to Linder's comfortable transition as a Rookie." Despite some of Linder's struggles with guys overpowering him or being better athletes, I think most thought he'd be a steal because he's an intelligent, effort guy with great technique and adequate attributes. So far, so good.

Let's not make everything into a "give Golden credit" or "kill Golden" discussion, please.

Yeah, that 2001 OL under Kehoe was an utter disaster.

Interesting to see how these guys are rated when they come out:

Linder:

Henderson:

Matt Patchan

Linder was the one who exceeded the projected draft round. Henderson, as would be expected, slid way below where his potential would suggest he could end up. I was surprised at Patchan, a kid whom I thought had extraordinary speed for an OL with great height. In fairness, he had a lot of injury setbacks and had to shift to defense and back again. Still, physically, the evaluator at NFL.com didn't see a guy with great physical attributes. (This evaluator is wrong in saying Patchan came out as a DL.)

The only one of the three who was drafted higher than projected in these evaluations was Linder. He seems to be exceeding the expectations of the guy who wrote this stuff by becoming an immediate starter. Keep in mind these are no "official" NFL evaluations. I doubt that they exist, I'm sure each team does its own. I think Linder, although a highly rated recruit out of HS, might have been regarded as less elite than the other two, especially Henderson.

I have no idea how Patchan is doing in the NFL. I think the Bucs are playing the Dolphins in an hour, so maybe you can see on TV down there.
