Bill Miller's Defense circa 1997-98

First off, nice win. Go Canes!

I had cold sweats last night thinking about no push, no pass rush, soft zone...thank God for turnovers. I don't like disparaging young kids, but we may have some Lawson's and Sweeney's out there on the dline. Kids have heart, but poor recruiting prior to the last 2yrs has us in a tough position. Also, our most recent upgrades on the recruiting front are still on the younger side(young guys play here Jaynard, Quay and hopefully a Juco freak remember that).

That being said, do we dial it up and go aggressive with our speed and start showing the hybrid 3-4 with a healthy dose of zone blitz? I hate not getting off the field on 3rd down. Any thoughts on where we can generate push, pressure, chaos and get the Canes players and fans in a good old school west end zone frenzy?

A name fro the past. I bet 95 % of this board has no clue who Bill Miller is but he was
terrible and the defense philosiphy's are similar.

Not giving up on D. Get comfortable with him, he's not going anywhere. Don't forget he passed up the head coaching job at Temple to follow Golden. Al is a loyal guy that will not give up on his long time friend. If you don't like his scheme, hope we get really good and another school hires him away. Otherwise he's here as long as Golden is the coach at Miami.

I believe we see a big improvement on defense next week. Dont forget defense started slow last year and got progressively better in the last 6 games last year.

Miller was average bc his players were average - 1997 is interesting year, bunch of our frosh played that year and didnt look impressive bc they were .....frosh. But they worked out Ok, names such as: Ed Reed, Morgan, S Moss, R Wayne & Joaquin

I hope so. The similarities and results are similar. I think he has the personnel and know how to be more aggressive. I am in NO WAY calling for D'nofrio's removal. I want him and Coach Golden to succeed as much as any Cane fan.

if the DC don't get his unit's **** together than Golden's going to need to more controlling of the defense. I don't call for any firings. Just if the DC can't handle it then take it over Golden.
