Big HS football game tomorrow night: Heritage at Gibbons

Jelani Hamilton had a prototype body for a 4-3 DE. He sucked.

Marcus Robinson made a lot of plays for Miami while he was here. I'll take another Marcus Robinson.

You're not gonna fill your whole roster with NFL prototypes. That's unrealistic. I mean, you can sign nothing but prototype bodies, but there's no guarantee that all of them will actually be able to ball. (you're gonna have some Jelani Hamiltons in the bunch)

Looking for prototypes was one of Golden's recruiting weaknesses. I want gamers! I'm perfectly fine with taking some undersized guys if they've shown that they can ball. South FLA kids are a different breed. They're dogs. A lot of that prototype **** goes out the window when you're evaluating South Florida kids. If a kid can dominate in South Florida then he can likely excel in major D-1 football. That's been proven over and over again.

I think you have to make exceptions for some kids. (like a Trajan Bandy)
Chatfield may be one of those kids.

Elvis Dumervil comes to mind.

Elvis was a YUGE miss by UM. Does Chatfield have those arms that are long enough to box with God like Elvis? Not sure Chatfield is as fast as Elvis was either.

And for the guys waxing poetic on Marcus Robinson, that dude was doody.

Not so sure Kool is looking for a "prototype" as much as he's looking for guys who project to marquee P5 greatness. He's seen Chatfield and even worked him out, but he hasn't pulled the trigger yet. It can't be such a no-brainer if the best DL coach in the country hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

Yes Marcus Robinson was stinky

I trust Kool but I also think you make room for a local guy with the type of production that Chatfield has. Tough one. I say lets take em.

Marcus Robinson was not doody. He was a nice situational pass rusher.

Jelani was broke before he even got here. He had a bum knee and barely played his senior year. That's the only reason Golden ended up with him. M Smith and McCrae were sack monsters in HS on their dominant teams playing DE. They have not panned put at all because it simply takes a different kind of player. Chatfield seems the same way. At DE, at the college level, he will get eaten up by big tackles. Bonitto being a little taller is a more interesting prospect to me... the real question is whether he can get up to 240 or so. I think he can.

i see this being posted..but u realize he plays at american heritage and not some bum *** high school...he goes against BIG TACKLES already...he use tohave his way with one of our ot commits in our class (Herbert)...and plays against div 1 tackles weekly. I dont put him on the same level as Mike Smith and Mccray..he has went against better talent and did different things compared to them as far as pass rushing moves...and Smith has turned into a servicable linebacker.

Jelani's problems had nothing to do with him being broken. He was never a great player. He lacked physicality, played soft and he was stiff. He had zero dog in him.

Smith and McCrae were LB's playing DE in high school, much like Ryan Shazier.

You can't simply say that Chatfield will get eaten up in college. You don't know that. He faces D1 linemen every day in practice.

There's been plenty of undersized pass rushers who were successful. Maybe in the run game he'll struggle but pass rushing is a different animal. Length isn't as important as it is in run defense. Pass rushing has more to do with bend, twitch, and get-off.

Go look at the NFL's sack leaders from last season. Majority of them are 6'3" or less. The tackles they face are 6'6" and up.

To this day, I never understood how STA could be a power house and not Gibbons. Great school, great teachers, great location, and the best looking women I have seen on a hs campus.

Gibbons is soft as Charmin. Always has been.

But Dubuc is a good dude and a good coach.

True.

When he went out with his knee injury during his senior he almost seemed content not to play another high school game.

When Bryan Cox broke his hand the very next year he was a madman. Kid wanted to play so badly.

Gibbons has always had the same problem. They're soft. (or at least they were, they seem to be turning the corner)

Usually if a Broward kid has the opportunity/ability to play at a private school then he heads to STA or Heritage. Gibbons seems to get the leftovers.

That's why they would run into STA or Heritage and get absolutely molly-whopped.
