Miami commit Nigel Bethel II is one of the recruits who had been wondering whether or not Al Golden would remain at Miami after speculation about him taking the Penn State job. Now that he has been assured that Golden will return, he’s excited to move forward.

“I feel good about the situation now because I know he was probably being offered more money and he could have easily taken the job and put his family in a better situation, but he decided to stay,” said Bethel.

What is the level of his commitment to the Canes right now?

“It’s pretty solid, but I’m still letting people recruit me because I want to make the right decision. I have to select the right university for the next 3-4 years and there’s no telling what’s the best place for me so I’m just going to let God guide me in the right direction.”

Bethel has one visit remaining and is planning on using it to an SEC program.

“I have one left and I know Coach Randy Shannon from Arkansas called me yesterday and Georgia’s DB coach called, but I don’t know which one I’m going to set up. Both of them will be visiting me in January so whichever I get a better vibe from I’ll probably visit.”

Something Bethel has been publicly critical about is Miami’s scheme and philosophy on defense. Does the talented corner believe this will be fixed once his class gets to Miami?

“I feel like they have the talent to do it right now, but I don’t know why they’re not doing it. I think it will be fixed because people are complaining about it and coach should take it into consideration so he can see how we can get better and more physical.”

A positive in Miami’s chances for holding onto the Booker T. Washington standout is that he feels like he will be able to get onto the field early.

“That’s a good thing and I know Coach Golden has been preaching to me that he wants me to play the nickel because I’m quick, instinctive, and I have the speed so I’m a great fit for that spot. I know I can come in and start as a true freshman.”

Bethel recently tweeted out that Miami target J.C. Jackson was a silent commit to the Canes, but now he is thinking otherwise.

“I heard it from another player, but Chad (Thomas) was with him at the Under Armour game and he told me that he was with Ermon Lane and Dalvin together and he thinks he’s going to follow those two to FSU.”

**Bethel has not been offered by either Georgia or Arkansas yet.

Good write up Pete. Hope he sticks. Sorry to hear about JC. Wanted him in class, but we have so few slots left anyone we get means someone else get in.

Yeah lets get off of him not playing as a nickel and JC maybe not coming here, im glad that Bethels solid and that this class has stuck together through all of this

While people will complain about Golden staying one thing is for sure it may have helped save this class

Sad the only part anyone seems to have read is the JC part.

Bethel is a baller and I love his comments about our scheme. Need to make sure we keep the Booker T guys in the fold.

Thanks for the write up.

Think he sticks. He'll be great here. And Golden today specifically mentioned playing more nickel. So, like, that's kinda positive, right?

Kid is willing to be option #4,5,6, or 7 for UGA and Ark instead of riding things out with the hometeam and seeing the field early

No one should. The problem is kids don't know what their word means any longer. Not that he's gone, but I don't believe any of these kids until the fax comes in
