Best Single Game Performance By a UM Player?

Brock Berlin comeback against the Gates was pretty epic. Dan Morgan against FSU 2000

Miami has had a lot of games by front 7 defenders that don't get as much pub as they should cuz there weren't actual points being scored unlike their offensive or defensive back counterparts, but yeah, some great individual games.

The one in 2000 by Morgan that you mentioned.
Vilma in the 2001 title game vs Nebraska.
Tiger Clark vs Notre Dame in 1989.
Daniel Stubbs vs UF in 1987.
Jerome Brown against OU sometime in the mid 80s.
The list goes on and on...

Didn't Hester have 3 or 4 TD returns Vs gayturds? I think 03 or 04. Maybe it was just for the win, memory is fuzzy I'm getting old but I remember it was ELECTRIC.

No

97 yard opening kickoff return for TD. I think the electric one was against Duke.

Did have that punt return that took the lead for a second vs Louisville in 04....he another kick return that game that was called off... He turned momentum that game

He had 1 kickoff return against the Gators. He had a blocked FG return against the Gators the next year in the Peach Bowl. Roscoe had a punt return for a TD in the Peach Bowl too.

Yeah I was thinking Louisville but thought we ended up losing. Either way he is high on the list but gotta give ST26 the crown.

We gave the lead back after Hester's punt return, but Brock led the game winning TD drive later in the 4th.

Excellent performances mentioned.

Honorable mention based on it's affect on the program:
Jim Kelly vs Penn State in 1979.
One could argue that this game was the game that started it all.

Flashback Friday: 11/3/79 - Miami 26, #1 9 Penn State 10 - State of The U

Just looked up that 1979 schedule (Schnellenberger's 1st year).
Miami's last 4 games of the season that year:
Nov 3: @ Penn State
Nov 17: @ #1 Alabama
Nov 24: vs Notre Dame in TOKYO (!)
Dec 1: vs Florida in Miami

WHO made THAT schedule?

Was watching a Sean Taylor Tribute vid & they showed highlights from his insane game in Tallahassee in the rain.
I started wondering was that the best single game performance by an individual Cane?
Some that came to mind:

- Sean Taylor in 2003 vs FSU
- Edgerrin James in 1998 vs UCLA
- Bernard Clark in 1989 vs Notre Dame
- Willis McGahee in 2002 vs Virginia Tech

What are some others that come to mind and what do you all think was the best single game performance by a Miami Hurricane?

I know we all want to forget about the Golden era but Duke Johnson is one of the greatest RB to play at the U.

Duke Johnson in 2014 against Virgina Tech.
29 Attempts 249 yards 8.6 average 1 TD rushing 2 Rec 37 Rec Yards 18.5 Rec Avg 1 TD.

Duke was very good, but he is behind McGahee, Portis and Gore in RBs since 2000. I never saw Edge play as a Hurricane or any RBs prior to him, so I can't comment on Duke compared to them.

EJ by far because we still had depth issues and he went manimal on the #3 country. He clearly gave us the edge!

Except UCLA's defense was a total fraud. Ron Dayne also brutalized them in the Rose Bowl.

Both of those games are prior to me watching college football, but you are talking about the man that owned the most rushing yards in history until a few hours ago.

This. I have watched A LOT of Canes football dating back to 1982, and all of the performances mentioned are definitely worthy of an all-time greatest performance label, particularly Sean Taylor and Edge, but for some reason when this question popped up, and notwithstanding any of his criticisms, I immediately thought of Sapp's performance, albeit in a losing effort in this game. I still talk about it to this day. The extenuating circumstances really make this an epic performance:
- National title on the line
- Historically, a Nebraska team that was one of the most talented in NCAA history (this was around their run where they won National Titles in 3 out of 4 years; incredible even by today's Alabama standards)
- They had geared their entire strategy to stopping Sapp (he was continually double teamed and in some cases triple teamed)

Coaches talk pursuit and never giving up on a play, well Sapp looked like he was in the camera frame on nearly every Nebraska offensive play. He never quit and was relentless the entire game literally trying to will our team to a win by carrying everyone on his back. When coaches talk about players leaving it all out on the field, I believe this performance should be shown to demonstrate that quality. Few times in my life have I ever seen someone with so much competitive fire in his belly. If you haven't seen this game, it is hard for me to recommend it since we lost, but if you can stomach it, it is truly legendary. I normally can't talk about a big game loss for days, but in this one, I really don't know what more could have been done, as we just got beat by a team with a lot more talent that day (I won't admit that often).

I will never forget that Sapp performance against Nebraska. It was 1994 and I was 13 years old, I remember all week leading to the game ESPN were talking about how great their OL was. They were doing a show inside a pool hall where their OL were hitting their fists against their palms, indicating what they were going to do to Sapp. He was being interviewed at the time and when asked about it, he said "all I have to say about that is, come get some!" Boy did he back it up, literally the only time Nebraska could move the ball was when he was taking a breather, and I'm talking panting. This dude was mauling multiple OL every snap. IIRC, had we won we would've likely played Penn State for the national title; very tough loss.

In the days prior to 1968 or so, Miami typically had very home-heavy schedule. The team started sucking in the late 60s, and along with the rise of the Fins, the crowds disappeared. Miami's schedule shifted from home-heavy to road-heavy. They always played a strong national schedule, it's just a shame they had to play most of it on the road.
