Just paraphrasin' but he said, re this year's defense unit; " This is not the same group. They're bigger; they're stronger; they're more mature." He didn't mention, but it is also obvious that they have some experienced (senior) newbies to help.

Even if Renfrow and Gilbert only give us a handful of plays against FAU and Florida, this will already be a vastly improved defensive front from a depth and experience standpoint.

And what exactly do you think that equates to? If our scheme doesn't change, it will be more of the same.

Correct. D'Onfrio and Golden's scheme doesn't have the ability to work. It's a miracle they have been in coaching so long. They also have no ability to adapt.

Actually that's not true.... D'onofrio's defense is basically about having grown men up front who can disrupt the backfield w/o having to blitz more then you want to. That was basically Mark Stoops philosophy when he was the DC at FSU, except he almost never blitzed or do anything different outside of their base defense.

They hardly ever sent blitzes b/c they used their d-line to create pressure while the rest of the defense played zone 24/7 to make sure every man has an eye on the ball... and had a top 5-10 defense while doing so.

Stoops defense was actually more boring and conservative then D'onofrio's last year..... he had guys who were suppose to be pass rush specialist like Christian Jones dropping back all the time and getting exposed b/c thats not their strengths. While D'onofrio took more chances, like sending blitzes from different areas and from different positions, then he was given credit for.

I was being sarcastic about the post above mine.

I liked the "They have 6 more days to determine who's coming out of the smoke" line when asked what Freshman will play

Im loving how Golden is having a forward mentality. That is the influence and theme of this years defense forget the past and move on to bigger and better year

No excuses for D'Onfrio this season. This preseason Coach Golden made some bold statements that will have to be backed up or there will be consequences for D'Onfrio. Golden has basically told the public that he has given D'Onfrio all to tools need to make defense successful.

I wish there was a way that all of the guy's posts could be unviewable. Instead, I have to read them because you guys quote him. He's a mental midget, Please stop listening or trying to comprehend what he is saying. It's almost always wrong.

I expect a huge improvement in the defense. If not, a lot of guys here are going to be checking out the specials at "Tar 'N Feather Depot".

I think it's pretty clear, if you don't love football and have a particular passion for it, you have no room in Golden's program. If you're not an individual who is fully vested into the process, you're time at UM will be short

Too many guys in the past decade were just guys happy to be hear and it showed on the field

"It's no longer OK to be a 208 pound linebacker here. It just isn't."

^ is the best quote up to this point.
