ORLANDO -- The Bayside High Bears piled it on early and often in their spring game, defeating Orlando Jones 28-0. The Bears swarming defense, led by senior ends Tomell One and Travonte Valentine, got off to a hot start causing a fumble on the first play of the game. One, Bayside's vocal leader, had the defense playing amped up like it was a playoff game and not an exhibition.
“I didn't expect myself to be the (vocal) leader, I always have been the person to show what he does without saying it,” One said. “But when I step on the field, I get fired up and I just want to express myself and let them know that it’s that time to start turning up.”
It was a nightmare for Jones’ offense the entire game, as Bayside's defense had three interceptions. Two of them came from junior safety Chris Hill.
“I couldn't have done it without my coaches,” Hill said. “My coaches are very determined to get us better.”
On offense, Bayside quarterback Austin Evarts threw for two touchdowns in the contest.
“All in all, as long as we all work together, we'll be pretty fine,” One said. “Go through summer training and all that, we'll be real fine.”
