We can get our pitchers plenty of work if our offense can get rolling. Go up by 10+ runs by the 3rd or 4th, then you can start experimenting a little bit as the game goes on.
The problem has been these past few seasons that our guys haven't gotten work because we don't really blow teams out that we should (like Barry) on a regular basis. It's like we play down (or up) to our competition.
Just for example, dating back to 2009, our wins over Barry were as follows:
2013: 5-1
2011: 10-5
2010: 6-0, 11-1
2009: 15-10
Now, the only wins that impress me against them were the ones from 2010. And I'm even skeptical about the 6-0 game, which looks like we were still somewhat anemic offensively. Even the 15-run output is offset by the 10 runs we gave up in 2009.
I realize that this is baseball where anyone can beat anyone in a given game, and a 1-0 win is still a win...but when you're the Miami Hurricanes, and the Barry Buccaneers are in the opposing dugout, the goal should be to blow them out. An opponent like this is the opportunity to be impressive, dominate, and get your whole team some work once you're comfortably ahead.
