With A.Figueroa and D. Bond committed and J. Grace and M. Thomas very possible/probable and messers R. Foster and Q. Powell somewhat viable reaches, how many LBs do we take? Can't take 'em all. I figure 4 at max.

If your name was Armbruster & Cornelius, would you be perusing D-2 cataloges? Are there contingency plans for E. Johnson in the works?

Yes, I am aware that all the aforementioned LBs will not play 'backer, and someone may become a DL. Who?

Don't forget Yannick Ngakoue, as well.

Sign 2-3 of the unsigned and we will be playing beast mode at the 2nd level.

I don't think we take another outside of Grace and Thomas unless it's a national can't miss like Foster.....which is a loooooooong shot. Also, fix your font.

Unless every single one of these guys busts, QBs better have their heads on a swivel in 2014. Lot o' fast twitch in that list.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say there are no contingency plans for EJ. He will be here 3 to 4 years without any problems.

sounds like we indeed are moving to that 3-4. 3 300lb guys and a bunch of backers. So you always need at least 10 backers in that scenario. 4 to play 4 to roatate and 2 specialists

Man I hope so

I see far too many "all variables have to work out" types.

With regards to pass rush or with regards to their being every down guys? AQM and 6 seem about as "sure thing" as it gets to me in both regards. I feel very comfortable with McCord's future as a pass rusher going forward. Terry has shown me enough that I would be surprised if he didn't develop into a significant player getting after the QB for us. While I would agree that none of the others seem like locks and lack at least one prototype trait, they all appear to be physically gifted enough that I'm confident at least of them will be players.

W/r/t pass rush.

A lot is riding on Hoilett's development and Terry's ability to gain weight.

Those kinds of players - fast and athletic LBs - represent the core for your STs, as well.

I've always maintained that quality/quantity of depth at LB makes more of an impact on STs than any other position.

We are not "moving" to a 3-4. We run multiple fronts and the ultimate goal will be to have the personal to run even and odd fronts. When Golden took over, he had very few players who fit into the odd front scheme as Shannon ONLY ran even fronts. That is the reason to we are bringing in so many hybrids. That being said, Golden recruits freak athletes and then finds a spot for them.

It has been said literally 2389074637894562347856234785689 times on this board we will use multiple fronts. In this current day and age of wide open offenses, you have to be able to do a lot of things on defense. Having a defense that can be an even or an odd front with the exact same personnel groupings is a HUGE advantage.

For instance:

DE- Chick/Hamilton/O'Donnell
DT/NT- Ivery/Moore
DT/DE- Pierre/Bostwick
DE/LB- M. Thomas/McCord/Bond/Terry

LB- Johnson/Fig
LB- Kirby/Blue
LB- Perryman/Grace
CB- Burns/Gunter
CB- Howard/Crawford
S- Bush
S- Jenkins/Carter

Same personnel group with the ability to do 2 completely different things without having to substitute. We are recruiting a ton of hybrids because it is becoming a sport of hybrids.

I was told he's going to be alright.

I think this is just good recruiting. We're hoping for Grace and Thomas but not putting all our eggs in one basket.

I understand the Multiple fronts concepts as well. As no team really runs a BASE anything anymore. Base 3-4 Base 4-3 Base 4-2-5 all of that is what teams are supposed to be able to do and have been doing for years. But they still have a base D.

Our base D is the 4-3

Green?

I was mostly projecting for a couple years down the road, but ideally Green would be one of those anchor d-ends, not a flex guy. Injuries seem to have robbed him of the burst we brought him in for.
