One year UM signed the fastest HS runner in the country, Ashton Purvis, from California. (11.17 100 m., just .03 off of Marion Jones HS record).

She ended up with a groin muscle injury, never ran for UM, and ended up at TAMU after Cali Juco. I don't know if she ever ran close to 11.17 again.

Just for comparison. Lauryn Williams never was close to either of these girls in HS. This girl's best is 11.44 I think.
