In our history Paul Dee and Sam Jankovich were significant in picking coaches and directing our course. Baseball and football were great under them. Our basketball was just okay. Now with Dan Radacovich our baseball is not up to par, our basketball is incredibly bad and with lots of money our football is pedestrian. Our ROE on our investments is pathtic and doesn't most of that lie with the Athletic Director? All the accolades paid when he was hired seem not so significanr now. Is it time for a change at the top? Is there another Sam Jankovich out there that knows how to hire and fire and come up with a winning team from the top down? Maybe we are looking to closely at what is right in front of us and maybe we need to clean house. Seems Dan has been rather quiet as we sink into oblivion.

I don't know if football really has all the money. This year in recruiting no 5 stars signed outside of the big two and I'm always told it's about buying players. You think we need a better fundraiser in that job?

I heard Dan doesn't even live in the area and is commuting? That doesn't sound like commitment to me.

UM football and baseball were great in spite of Paul Dee and he turned the basketball program into mediocrity with his series of bad hires. If this wasn't enough, he was part of the NCAA committee investigating USC malfeasance while his own school was intertwined with Nevin Shapiro. To quote one of my late HS coaches, he was an abortion at his job.

Paul Dee oversaw our slide into mediocrity. Was in charge when we hired Coker and Shannon.

Dan didn’t hire Coach L, & frankly Coach L is by far the best coach in Canes’ hoops history despite the lackluster 2 yrs. I’m not so sure how much power Dan actually has.

He didn’t hire Mario, he didn’t hire L, & by all reports, he had very little decision making for baseball. The only true hire was women hoops, & they r thriving.

Real ADs have power. He is out shopping for holiday appliances while other teams play in the playoffs.

This definitely puts things in perspective. If art of our problem is not giving full autonomy to our AD.

He didn’t hire the BB or FB coaches, and neither is in a fireable position just yet.

Judge the man on his hires, not Blake James’.

UM baseball has been on decline for as long as the football program. the basketball program has never been good aside for 1 off flash in the pan random seasons....... women's basketball has been killing it.

My mistake, you are 100% correct. There was another AD that was great although Jankovich was incredible. Who was the other AD?

I can't think of any stellars at UM aside from Jankovich and perhaps the guy who hired Lou Saban and later Schnellenberger (Mallios?), although there have been several folks who worked in the UM AD who later became successful ADs at big-time athletic programs.

It’s like this at most schools. A cabal of donors are the ones actually calling the shots. AD’s are more just spokespeople

This is far from truth.

If u don’t think the top schools who r thriving in sports do not empower their ADs to make autonomous decisions directly affecting the school’s AD, I have a bridge to sell u in the cozy neighborhood of East Compton, CA, thriving & teeming w productive citizens on Long Beach Blvd.
