Art Kehoe needs to go

He may need to go, but his unit suffered greatly from its general (coordinator).

Oline was horrendous. Golden has not shown that he makes coaching changes and I don't believe he will start now.

bad play calling... too predictable also had lack of execution. OL was very inconsistent and started off really bad but the 3 plays that changed the game:

Brad to Cooley fumble... should have been a TD. Big momentum swing by D and we give it right back.

Brad under throwing Dobard for pick. Should have been a TD.

Dumb call on Isadora on the Duke pass pretty much ended the rally. Duke was pumped up on that drive and almost got us back into it.

Kaaya looked a lot like Morris minus the big plays tonight. Lot of 3 and outs and tried to force a lot to Cooley who did not have a good game.

They looked awful, but there aren't many OLines that are going to look good against 9 man fronts that know you are running the ball.

I almost killed myself when I saw the following:

Dobard lining up at LT.
Dobard flares out for a pass leaving virtually no protection on that side.
Isadora is slow and pulls from the right to left trying to get in front 2 unblocked defenders
Kayaa rolls/boots to that side.
Play blows up.

That was a microcosm of how coley called tonight - putting kayaa and the OL in bad spots time after time.

He adjusted his belt. He let it out a notch.

More than Kehoe's coaching, there's a more high arching philosophy that's really the issue... We have an identify crisis, in that this staff is unable to realistically gauge our personnel to discover the type of team we should be.

What we are not, is a team that can line up and play smash-mouth football. We don't have the O-Line for that, and it clearly shows! Yet, we go a step further, and rely on a non-blocking TE, in Clive Walford, and expect this guy to seal the edges, when all he does is get man-handled, & watch his guy make the tackle.

We have several talented receivers, and are clearly better off playing from a spread formation. End of story. Smash-mouth football will not work against teams that are more physical than us.

Smash mouth style of play = we lose against caliber teams with a decent strength program, but we can out-fox teams with our talent in spread formation... But instead of making the adjustment, to switch things up in the 4th series, we wait until 2 minutes left in the game to try the spread. And just because we're in the spread, it doesn't mean we have to throw 80% of the time.. The Spread makes it easier to run as well.

I think that it's really starting to come into focus just how terrible this staff is. It is no coincidence that our play calling and offensive production has taken a nose dive since Fisch and McDonald left. Those two were by far the best and most competent coaches on the staff. Right now Larry Scott and Paul Williams are the cream of the crop and neither of them strikes me as coordinator material. This is one of the very worst coaching staffs in the nation right now. Let that sink in. This isn't me being reactionary either. This is without a doubt one of the worst staffs in FBS. Come to think of it, it may be the worst in all of college football. The staff at Booker T could come in and have this team better prepared. Absolutely sickening!!

Against a penetrating defense like that I didn't understand why so many of our pass blocking schemes relied on loops and misdirection. Louisville was saying thank you very much and heading smack toward Kaaya while our linemen were heading alternately left or right.

I didn't watch the offensive linemen as much as typical. When I focused on Flowers I saw much the same from last year. He's excellent at getting position and turning his man when that's his assignment. He's not as effective in pure drive blocking. In fact, that seems to be the trend among all of our recent linemen. Maybe it's a recruiting goal. Find guys who aren't overly mean.
