Why does it seem like the defense wins 95% of the time in these one on ones? In a regular game there wouldn't be a pocket once in those clips. In the reps where the defender doesn't blow past them they're driven back 10 yards
Because the drill puts the Olineman at a disadvantage. Oline is so much about teamwork - combo blocks, chips etc and knowing where the play is going. One on one in a pure athlete situation, 9 times out of 10 the Dlineman is going to win when he's going 100mph on one play and has nothing to worry about other than getting past the Olineman - which is why when an Olineman does win he stands out as special.
It's similar to the DB / WR drills. In those the DB is at a competitive disadvantage because the WR has a) all day b) can pull out every single move / fake he has.
*obviously when they're similarly talented. These are the elite high school players in the country, I'm sure Scaife would pancake 90% of the 18 year olds trying to do this to him.
