Didn't the NCAA put in a rule where coaches had to be employed for at least two years before they could be moved to off-field roles?

Something about dissuading teams from hiring high school coaches close to recruits, then quickly demoting them?

I remember Willie Taggart got burned by this at FSU and had to demote/fire someone or something.

Is that rule still in place?

Are DVD and Aristide eligible to be moved to off-field positions?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Dvd can’t be moved , he’s been on field one year. I’m not sure if a new coach changes that. Good question on ish, was he off field at AM? I can’t remember. I think he might have been . Once again I don’t know if that changes with a coaching change or switching schools. I’m sure the rule is used to keep shady dealings from happenings with hirings to get a recruit.

My understanding of this rule is that it only applies to high school recruits and their direct associations eg you cannot hire a high school coach of a prospect at that same school into an off-field analyst role, must be on-field for the 2 years prior to that student athlete enrolling at the school. There is no rule that I'm aware of that states that former recruiting department analysts like DVD that once they move on-field must be on-field for 2 years. And even if it there was such a rule that affects DVD the exception bylaw below states that that person can be moved to another position if that on-field coach has been in his position for the previous academic. Here's the NCAA rule verbatim from the NCAA manual.

13.8.3.5 Individual Associated with a Prospective Student-Athlete -- Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS] In bowl subdivision football, during a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete's anticipated enrollment and a two- year period after the prospective student-athlete's actual enrollment, an institution shall not employ (either on a salaried or a volunteer basis) or enter into a contract for future employment with an individual associated with the prospective student- athlete in any athletics department noncoaching staff position or in a strength and conditioning staff position. (Adopted: 4/26/17 a contract signed before 1/18/17 may be honored)

13.8.3.5.1 Application. [FBS] A violation of Bylaw 13.8.3.5 occurs if an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete (see Bylaw 13.02.20) is employed by the institution and, at the time of employment, a student-athlete who enrolled at the institution in the previous two years (and remains enrolled at the institution) was a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student- athlete. A violation of Bylaw 13.8.3.5 also occurs if an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete is employed and, within two years after such employment, a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete enrolls as a full-time student in a regular academic term at the institution. In either case, the student-athlete becomes ineligible for intercollegiate competition unless eligibility is restored by the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. (Adopted: 4/26/17)

13.8.3.5.2 Exception -- Reassignment. [FBS] An institution may reassign an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete from a countable coaching staff position to a noncoaching staff position or strength and conditioning staff position, provided the individual has been a countable coach at the institution for the previous academic year. (Adopted: 4/26/17, Revised: 3/3/21)
