First off, its all about the U.
:emotcrown: :quag:
So huge to get a win at an acc road opener. Absolutely huge. We have 2 less wins right now in the conference than we did last year at the end of the season. Alot of questions werent necessarily answered for me yesterday, but now I have a pretty good idea of how things are playing out around the country and especially in Miami after a fun opening day of football.
The baby canes.
Heres what I took from the game. Kendal Thompkins got more than a chance. He started. He was on the field for multiple drives. He dropped a huge third down and did not look crisp or fluid in his routes. I believe he dropped another later in the game. Drops really hurt us, especially the one that flew off of Scotts pads and into the hands of the waiting receivers. Malcolm Lewis also got a shot, and he capitalized! He has an elite burst coming off of those screen passes. He doesnt take the catch, dance, and look for an opening... he just goes. Thats what those screens should look like, not the Pat Nix esque horrid bubble screens of the past.
What I took from that? Thompkins probably wont get any more signifigant PT because Lewis just took them cookies.
Morris - What I expected from Morris. Maybe a little better just because I forgot the tight windows this guy can throw in to. He did a great job of managing the game and if he can get more help from the run game he will be just fine as a serviceable qb. What I didnt like is he still eyeballing his targets which will prove fatal against teams with good defense.
DUKE - The Real Deal Holyfield. Get this guy 8-12 carries a game for the rest of the season if we want to sustain a run game.
The OLINE - Played very, very well. Kehoe did a good job of coaching these boys up.
Conditioning - Where we won the game, IMO. BC was obviously tired in the late 3rd and 4th and we were taking advantage of that well. We didnt look like we slowed down at all until the last drive. We arent there yet, but its paying dividends already. We go down 14-0 in the first half with last years team and its a nailbiter or a loss at the end. Big improvement.
Play calling - I wont think too much about this, but even a simple mind like myself knows to get in a power formation and the run the ************ when you are up big in the late 2nd half. Fisch gets way too cute at times, I would like to see him move away from that. He calls a good game when the score is close. I dont think he knows how to act with a lead.
Defense - Not looking too good. I like the overall aggresiveness of trying to get the turnovers, but our guys, especially Linebackers and safetys, were out of position all day long. Giving up passes in the flats and not getting touched for 40 yards signifies to me that our defense has a long long way to go. Perryman is a beast. Johnson will be a beast one day. Buchanan still doesnt necessarily get it, but I think he will make strides in these next few weeks. Coming off an injury, it usually takes some time to get back into the swing, and he was in full starter mode. Safetys scare me. Telemaque didnt do a **** thing all day. KSU is going to ****-push us if we dont start throwing some blitzes in the mix like we began to do in the 2nd half vs BC.
Congrats to Coach Golden, he was very involved on the sidelines and he deserves to be able to rest easy for at least 1 night. It stresses me out to see him on the sidelines.
The ACC
North Carolina is good. Yes, they played Elon, but they still have a defense and Gio Bell is the GD truth. He has incredible burst and can bull you over.
NCST either isnt who we thought they were or Tennessee is back. Im guessing its more of the first.
FSU beat Thompson School for the Blind in an epic matchup. Jurys still out.
Maryland is hot crap. Still cant believe they beat us last year.
Ok, Clemson is pretty good. Tajh Boyd looks like he improved from last year which is kind of scary.
Georgia Tech and VT will be a huge game. If we want to be relevant in the coastal, IMO, we need GT to win this game.

Didnt expect the romping of Michigan by Bama. I can deal with that though since at least Auburn lost. Im sick of hearing of these Alabama Teams.
Notre Dame looks as good as they have been in a while, but I still dont think they are there yet.
All in all it was a great day of action and oh how I missed it.
I predict the Canes go to KSU next week and lose by a TD or less.
