Still pretty ticked off about that performance last night. Horrible beyond words. Players had no swagger and were laughing on the sidelines like they didn't care. Fans apparently were yelling at the players and leaving early. Golden was stammering and seemingly had no idea what to do and was totally outcoached by Strong. Bridgewater came in wanting to show us up and he did that in spades, even flashing The U before a slash across the neck. Like we rejected him during recruiting or something. Hurtt was there on the sidelines, after helping to put our program into a dark cloud for three years, there he was enjoying another bowl game win. Absolutely nothing went well last night. I can see why everyone is ticked off and wanting some heads to roll or even saying that this program is finished.
I want to try and step back from the abyss. It sure does seem easy to dive into it right now, but I haven't stuck with this team all these years and go thru that ncaa crapathon to give up on it now. Gotta cling to the positives or go all negative. I'll choose the former.
Golden is an honorable man who cares about our program, the players' education and getting this program back on track in the right way. He definitely needs to make some hard decisions this offseason. I'm going to wait and see what happens before wanting him gone.
The Shannon era is finally coming to a close. I think in some way his recruits (this year's seniors) gave up on the program when Shannon left and this whole ncaa crapathon began. They worked hard and did their best, but anyone could see the difference in desire by watching the two teams playing last night. The events that took place while they were in college snuffed something out of them and it couldn't be relit. I kind of feel sorry for them in a way, but they did stick with the program and finally made it to a bowl game.
We still have a top recruiting class and if Golden can set the ship right with his staff, then we could see some real mojo come back into this team. It doesn't have any right now. That sort of thing doesn't just come back because you want it to. It takes time to build and grow. But this is Miami and we need to give Golden the chance to do that.
We won nine games this year. We haven't done that since '09 so there's progress. I was hoping for at least a 11-2 season but the team still won more than the last three seasons.
I will always remember this team for their win against the Florida Gators on September 7th. That was my biggest thrill of the season. These Gators have decided not to play us anymore and it sure did feel good to send them home with a loss and put them into a tailspin from which they never recovered. The sight of Golden leading the players over to the fans to show appreciation for their support is one of my best memories of the season.
I wish this season could have ended on a better note. There are plenty of bad things that happened last night and I'm sure those things will be talked over and and again on the Canes sites. A lot of people will be calling for Golden's head and wanting wholesale changes again. I'm going to step back and see the good that came from this season. After a loss like that, it's hard to believe that this program is heading in the right direction, but I'm not ready to give up on Golden and the team yet. I still want to see want he can do without the ncaa cloud hanging over his head. Make the right staff changes, have a good NSD and let's see what he can do next year.
As always, Go Canes!
