My opinion of the top ACC players so far this year....feel free to comment/debate on anyone/thing you may disagree with. I've watched a decent amount of ACC play this year, but may not be the best in evaluating players in terms of their defense. However, I often feel that gets looked over among the voters as well so this is what I think....
All ACC 1st Team:
Erick Green (VA Tech): 25 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 4.2 APG and 1.3 SPG. Nearly 50% from the field, 39% from distance and 82% from line. Regardless of anyone pointing out how many shot attempts he takes or that there are zero other players on VA Tech, the numbers don't lie, this guy should be an All-American.
Mason Plumlee (Duke): Second in the ACC in both categories with 17.6 PPG and 11 RPG. Not to mention he averages 2 blocks and 2 assists. Plumlee leads the ACC in shooting percentage at 60%. I hate this Plumlee as much as any of them, but he will be a unanimous All-ACC first team selection and quite possibly another All-American.
C.J. Leslie (NC State): Nearly averages 16 a game, as well as 7.5 RPG. While he ranks among the leaders in the ACC in both categories, I think you really need to watch him to understand his talent and importance to his team. Leslie is also shooting an impressive 55% from the floor.
Shane Larkin (Miami): One of three Miami players who could potentially be an All-ACC player. Larkin consistently fills up the stat sheet every night averaging 13.0PPG, 4.3 RPG, 4.1 APG. Not to mention how he leads the ACC in steals with 2.35 and minutes with 36.3. One of the quickest players in the nation, Larkin can kill an opponent in a number of ways, specifically going for 18 points, 10 boards and 5 assists in Miami's trampling of the then number 1 ranked, Duke.
Lorenzo Brown (NC State): Call me crazy, but I really like the players who are mutil-dimensional, with the ability to fill up the stat sheet in a variety of categories in a given night. Brown's numbers are 12.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 7.0 APG and 2.1 SPG. 10th in the nation in assists, while leading the ACC. Downside is he leads the ACC in TO with 3.3 per game. Brown, along with McAdoo, Scott, and Howell are prime candidates for being on the All ACC 1st team.
All ACC 2nd Team
Durand Scott (Miami): 14.0 PPG, 4.0 RPG and 3.0 APG, not to mention 2.0 steals per game. I feel him and Brown are kind of a wash in most stats except for assists where Brown gets the obvious nod.
James McAdoo (UNC): Wow, no UNC players on the first team. McAdoo has a very solid line of 15 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 1.3 APG and 1.4 SPG.
Richard Howell (NC State): Averaging a double-double of 13 and 11 per game. Shooting 58% from the floor. Very solid numbers.
Reggie Bullock (UNC): 13.6 PPG, 5.7 RPG and nearly 4 APG. Excellent free throw and three point shooter.
Kenny Kadji (Miami): Not sure if he deserves to be here ahead of Quinn Cook or Ryan Anderson, but WTF, why not. Kadji is averaging 13.3 and 6.8. Notching one dime and 1.5 BPG. His 3 point percentage is slowly starting to climb after a slow start.
Honorable Mention:
Quinn Cook (Duke): 11.5 PPG, 4.1 RPG and 6.2 APG with nearly 2 steals. 39% from three and 85% from the line, he may deserve to be higher than this.
Seth Curry (Duke): Averaging 16.3 PPG, but only 2 boards and 1 assists. Good field goal percentage of 45, 43% from three and 83 from the line, but there are a ton of 15 point scorers in the league, help your team elsewhere.
Ryan Anderson (BC): 16, 9, 1.5, 50% from floor
Reggie Johnson (Miami): If it wasn't for two **** injuries..... still solid numbers at 10.5, 9.1 and 1.7 BPG for some very injury plagued numbers.
Alex Len (Marlyand): 13 and 8, 2BPG. 55% from the floor.
Jarell Eddie (VA Tech): 14 and 6, 1.5 BPG.
Joe Harris (UVA): 15, 4 and 2.5 with 1 SPG. 47% from field, 46% from distance.
Travis McKie (Wake): 15 and 8.
Michael Snaer (FSWHO): 14, 5 and 2.5. 39% from distance, 80% from stripe.
Ryan Kelly (Duke): Solid numbers, but nothing screaming out at you even if he would have played. 13.5, 5.5 and 1.5. Averaged 1.7 BPG in playing in 15 of 21 games for the team.
