When you're a cash-cow nothing can stop you. Wonder if Shalalah and the new AD will we ever get us there?

When you're Alabama, you can pretty much hire whomever you want, and this offseason, coach Nick Saban seems to have a particular interest in former ACC coaches.

First it was former Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who was hired as Alabama's director of player personnel. Then Saban hired Miami's Mario Cristobal as his offensive line coach, and most recently, Alabama has hired former FSU assistant Billy Napier to coach the wide receivers.

Cristobal and Napier barely had time to unpack their ACC offices before they were lured to Alabama. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Napier left just 22 days after signing his contract at FSU.

Jimbo Fisher hired Napier at FSU as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator in mid-January. About a week earlier, Miami had hired Cristobal as associate head coach. Both were terrific hires at their respective schools, but apparently neither can compete with what Alabama has to offer.

And now, thanks to the hires of these former ACC coaches, Alabama somehow found a way to get even better.

Get us where? Doesn't Texas spend a ton of money...I mean their coach makes probably more than all of our coaches combined.

I am a Yankee fan, every year we spend the most money BY FAR. Since 2001, the Yankees have won the WS once. The difference between this and college football is the Yankees spend that on the talent DIRECTLY but in college you cannot do this (without breaking a bylaw). Sure, the Yankees can pay Girardi&Co. the most money (and they do) but the coaching doesn't alone get you there.

In the last 16 years: World Series Finalists in terms of payroll:

- Top 10 in payroll: 20/32 = 62.5%
- Middle 10: 8/32 = 25%
- Bottom 10: 4/32 = 12.5%

In the last 16 years: World Series Winners in terms of payroll:
- Top 10: 11/16 = 68.75%
- Middle 10: 4/16 = 25%
- Bottom 10: 1/16 = 6.25%

Alabama will continue to hire and spend more then everyone else but money isn't the end all.

First off, you're comparig a professional sport to college football. Secondly, your comparing a game that plays nearly 200 games, to a season of 12+ games if your lucky; which I$ like comparing a watermelon to a grape...

Get us where? To the point where we can practically handpick whatever we want, to include facilities and state of the art technology and equipment to match what other teams have. Which is a fair question IMO? Also, i think it fair to want to strive towards being creative in order to fill the stands, to generate the cash to (at least) fend off other teams (NFL included) that want to steal from our staff.

I understand you can't win every bidding war dollar for dollar, but at least give Golden the chance to look a guy in the eye and ask him to hang in there with you, and give him a bit of a raise as an incentive; if you had the room in your reserves to do so, and not miss it...

Nothing on the coaches currently on the staff, cause in the words of wise Winslow "I'm a f*&king soldier" and will practically ride or die for everything Da U!

But, IF you haven't been paying attention, we just lost a guy with Head Coaching caliber, for a middle of the pack guy from USF. ...Then we lost a RB to the pro's, and replaced him with a guy that hasn't coached RB ever. Still love him though.

However, if you don't think money has anything to do with that, and there's nothing to strive for in that regard, then all i can say is good luck to your Yankee's, and keep it moving.

Go Canes!!

It seems to me that the numbers you quote tend to show that there is a strong correlation between spending and winning. It doesn't necessarily guarantee success, because you don't always get what you pay for. But, on average, it seems like the smart thing to do. Out bid everyone for what you think is the best. Having deep pockets is a distinct advantage.

I'm sure this is a fantastic hire, but I've fell into the "we have to hire someone with South Florida ties" rut. I just can't get excited about this yet and I'm sure it's actually a great hire. Quick...somebody cheer us up. I can promise I'm not the only one.

Anytime i need to be cheered up i just remember when Matthew Thomas said he was never going to Um, because he did not trust the coaching staff. This reminds me that we will still get elite talent in south Florida.

It is not, it is the same principle. Spending is a great advantage but it is not the end all. That is my point. Texas makes it rain all over this *****. So what? It is not just spending.

Also, are you telling me Miami doesn't spend PERIOD...or spend as much.
