• Morris’ right ankle that he injured Sept. 21 at Savannah State: “There has been nothing consistent in his routine, his preparation, his motion over the last month,” Golden said. “And certainly last week giving him that whole time off doesn’t help with his timing with the receivers. … There’s no question we have to continue to get him healed. …I just talked to him and there’s no setback from [Thursday] night at all. There’s no pain, so hopefully we can close this chapter and get back to him shifting his weight and feeling comfortable in his mechanics.”

> Asked if he gave any thought to pulling a struggling Stephen Morris on Thursday night Golden emphatically answered me: "No. No."

Did Morris convince him to stay in the game?

"He didn't need to convince me," Golden said. "I saw him in the huddle there at the end, those last couple drives. I saw that look going into that last huddle. He had command of that huddle. I actually left the huddle because of it. He was talking to those guys. I knew James did a great job settling him down, saying okay these are the 3 or 4 routes we're going to run. He felt comfortable with it.

They were doing some things that obviously caused him some difficulty in addition to what he was battling physically. James got him settled down, which I thought was awesome He threw those last three or four balls with great confidence and rhythm and timing. Obviously, it was the difference in the game. You have to trust your gut in those [instances]. There's no question Ryan Williams can win games for us and is really improved and we're excited about Ryan. But this was Stephen's time and I just felt he was going to lead us to victory certainly at that point, given that environment and where we were, 91 yards away. Stephen was the guy who was going to give us a chance to win."

He's nowhere near 100%. I don't think he will be until our bowl game. Just gotta hang in there and hope for the best.

I did notice Golden walking away and separating himself from the huddle on the last drive. He trusts Coley.

I'm more concerned about his decision making than his ankle.

Al Golden did say that Stephen's "routine" hasnt been consistent at all b/c of his ankle injury..... there's more to it then the ankle, not practicing, rust, timing.

Not arguing that those issues are not contributors to the problem, but he is still not throwing the ball away at the right times and is making bad decisions. It could be that split second timing that turns a good play bad, but I do not feel it is unreasonable to expect a senior quarterback to make better decisions with the football than Morris the last few games.

The decision making has zero to do with the ankle, or any lingering effects thereof.

I can buy the timing thing...but deciding to chuck the ball into traffic late in a play where you've already left the tackle box and can simply throw the ball away....has absolutely ZERO to do with an injured ankle.

He is what he is. Consistently inconsistent. Our Jeff George if you will....enjoy the ups and downs cause there will be more to come.

Consistenly inconsistent is what he is.... but my point is he has never played as horrible as he played last night.

At least he's clutch in late minute drives.

This is why I think that if Morris is able to go against Wake he starts. He needs some momentum and reps to help get the passing game back on track before rolling into Tally. The good thing is that Morris led those last two drives for TD's, had a few needed completions. That's something his confidence sorely needed. He needs a good outing verses Wake. If that happens, we roll into Tally ready to do battle.

I'm not a fan of playing a QB that takes zero reps the entire week leading up to a game.

Last year vs FSU Miami really had no choice, but vs UNC this year is nearly cost Miami the game. If he cannot get "live action" the week leading up to WF, there is no way he should play.

Yeah I think getting him back in his normal routine will get him back on track..... i thought maybe he should sit out against Wake but now i think it's better that he play even if it's just 1 half or 3 quarters.
