The jury's still out but the more i hear, the more i think AG really has it when it comes to evals.

Pierre is a kid he id'd at Temple. He allowed him to come over here, and the kid sounds like he'll be a real contributor. Gunter was not highly regarded, amd he sounds like a real find. Scott at WR, sounding good. Ivery, ditto. V. davis was a kid a lot of folks said was a reach -- sounding in the mix along with crawford. Other guys i'm interested to see what they end up doing: dillard, terry, blue, hoilett, o'donnell.

I won't get too carried away until it's game action. But i think we're going to be pleased woth AG's eye for talent.

I like that he goes by his own evals and many of the kids he offered last year was after his camps. Scott the year before was out of necessity, but seems to be a great find.

Pretty sure he knows what he's doing. He was finding 2 star recruits at temple tht were first round draft picks

Yeah we have had a mix of "Golden guys" and evals that were used in roster management crisis mode.

Guys like Carter and Scott raised eyebrows because there were other options and the staff keyed on them. Should be interesting to see how they progress.

This. I think the jury already knows he can evaluate. The question is can he build a winner at this level. The only knock on him is that even at Temple he did not win anything of note (conference, bowl game, ect.)

The fact that he won at Temple period was good enough for me. Jimmy Johnson was perpetually an 8 win coach at Oklahoma State.

I almost made this thread last night but didn't want to fight the dumbasses who felt like they were showing their superior football IQ by pointing out that no games have been played yet. Good observation.

Obviously we'll need to see it on the field, but I'm hopeful.

Eddie Johnson falls into this category as well. No other significant offers.

Eddie Johnson looks physically ready for sure, hopefully he can get the mental side of the game down.

He needs to show he can hit on QBs though. That is a major concern. Reports from the first two QBs are not very good so far

In my opinion, the key to Golden's success here will be the OC. As long as he sticks around, Golden will succeed. At Temple, GOlden won with DEFENSe and Special teams. The offenses there were awful. Let's hope everything works out. Il iked what I saw last year out of our O. The defense was handicapped by apocraphyl talent in the defensive backfield.

I'm fine with AG's player evals; its the staff ones I have issues with. Maybe its just me, but I am NOT feelin' Jethro Frankin. My gut is tellin' me this dude is Clint Hurtt 2.0.......

I think it's 1/2 player evaluations, 1/2 player development. I know this is cliche for our fan base, but I think we've forgotten what it's like to have players significantly improve not just because they're getting bigger/stronger, but because they're getting coached up.

A lot of what we call 'player development' is really just game planning and scheming. It's putting kids in a position to succeed. When you do that, they make more plays and people say they 'developed' better. But IMO, if Shannon's guys didnt develop, they wouldnt have out-performed in the NFL relative to college. For the most part, It's not that they needed development in the NFL -- Shields, for all the talk of his lack of knowledge, pickedit up in his first training camp.

It's evals + S&C/culture/motivation + schemes and gameplans + game-day play-calling.

He put more first rounders in the League out of Temple than Blandy put out of his #1 ranked recruiting class with the MNW boys.

Bicho is confident.

He should soon have the pick of the litter (hopefully Olsen is just the beginning). There's no reason we shouldn't be in contention for one of the top 10 pro style QBs every 1-2 years.

He had a strong running game at Temple, but seemed to have a crappy QB and OC.

That SHOULDN'T be a problem here.
