ACC suspends head official from Florida State-Miami, reprimands entire crew

The ACC on Monday announced suspensions for officials and one player from two separate Saturday games, including a reprimand for the entire crew officiating Florida State's 33-20 win over Miami.

David Epperley, the crew chief and referee for that game, has been suspended one game by the league for "failing to properly administer the 10-second runoff rule at the end of the first half." The rest of the officiating crew received "letters of reprimand" from the ACC.

How about missing a fumble and calling it an incomplete pass? That would have been a TD for us. How about deciding the "streaker" play should count when it was clear a couple of our defenders looked at the guy while the play was still going?

Christ was that huge.

Shades of PK Sam getting helicoptered by Sean Taylor in an even more egregious missed call.

Yup, except if they have replay back then, I think they overturn the call, but then again, I thought they'd overturn the call on Saturday.

Wait, so the FG shouldn't have counted at the end of the half?

No, and it's pretty much ******* common sense. They let FSU use a timeout retroactively. There were 7 seconds when they had a false start. They were in the midst of running a play when they incurred the penalty. They had not called the timeout (stopping the clock) and then tried to run a play (and have a false start).

The 10 seconds should have been marked off. The unused timeout was irrelevant. Stupid as **** by the refs.

Smh...reminded me of the Sean taylor hit on pk Sam that didn't get called a fumble

The refs had the right call...FSU could use their timeout.

Problem was...they didn't allow Golden use of HIS timeout, when he wanted to get his blocking unit up...which, is what he wanted to do because all of his players had run back through the tunnel.

3. If the fouling team has a timeout remaining they may avoid the 10-second subtraction
by using a timeout. In this case the game clock starts on the snap following the
timeout.

Seems like the refs did do the right thing honestly.

Wow. Totally counterintuitive, but I stand corrected. What did they get reprimanded for then?

Probably something the ACC and NCAA do not want known. Insert your favorite conspiracy theory...

Well, right after that Al Golden, while standing right next to the ref and letting him know he was gonna call a TO, called a TO and the ref completely ignored him and let them kick the FG.

Probably because they didn't know the rule and had to be corrected by Jimbo.

this. it was a total embarrassment to the conference that a coach had to correct the entire crew
