(feel free to move to recruiting board if deemed necessary)

Reading Larry's post's going thru the previously signed classes and prospects, got me thinking about some of the past recruiting cycles...some stories and names of who we targeted and did and didn't get. One name keeps coming to my mind...who was that Paul Gonella guy? I remember hearing his name being thrown around on grassy as one who knew HS players and was in contact them and the university. Was he a Shannon coaching staff member? If so, in what capacity? Wasn't Hill Shannon's recruiting coordinator? Did he advise on any targets or non-targets? Has he in any way been implicated with the Shapiro drama? Is he still around UM football? I ask these questions 'cause I don't know if I've ever heard this guy's whole story?

This guy has been involved in recruiting at Purdue, Memphis, Miami, Tennessee, UNC, and now Alabama. Funny thing is that he is never in 1 place more that 1 year or 2.

I read on another Canes site a while back this guy is a tireless behind the scenes recruiter, sometimes involving minor NCAA infractions, sometimes not. Some believe he was being compensated under the table at Miami and some people at the Hecht believe he was a walking NCAA violation waiting to happen, so he was unofficially released from an unofficial position. Same people feel he had a part in the violations at Tennessee and UNC when he was there.

Yep...

It's probably best to not ask the "what ever happened to" question about this guy until after sanctions and probation is over.
