Tomorrow is the day we've been waiting for yet now that its here we're all getting jittery. I want to post a few words to give you guys a deeper look at what I believe is going to happen to hopefully prepare the Canes family as best possible. Set aside the actual punishment for a moment, which I truly believe will be negligible at most.
Over the next week the entire sports world is going to be talking about the University of Miami and the nevin shapiro sports scandal. The media coverage will not focus as much on the final punishment but rather on rehashing all of the sensationalist headlines that came out of this saga. As is always the case with the media they will need a narrative from which to tell this story. I believe that narrative will be exactly like what the Randy Phillips story reads like.
Nevin Shapiro is the villain in that article. Randy Phillips is the poor, uneducated kid from rural America who came to the big city to get an education and play football and was taken advantage of by a predator. That is not a narrative from which a university gets hammered by the NCAA. Its the kind of narrative that fosters up a belief that the NCAA needs to be reformed. THAT is what you are seeing in that Randy Phillips article. Remember, these things must be true for nevin to be the villain. Please dont hate because Randy Phillips is talking about it. ****, UM conducted their own investigations and self imposed two bowl games. Do you really think anything Randy Phillips is saying is groundbreaking?? This stuff MUST be rehashed for the world to see. Again, its not the violations that will take center stage, its predator boosters. How else do you think Bama, LSU, ohio state, et al will get exonerated when its their turn? By the time College Gameday does their piece on UM this Saturday, the story will be about how the poor universities can protect their kids from those predatory boosters, not UM.
Stay strong and have faith my fellow Canes. Epic times are around the corner. Tomorrow is not an ending but rather yet another beginning for UM athletics. Enjoy it as its happening. I know I will.
/should UM get the death penalty I take back everything posted above.
