How old are you?!? Have you gotten the Zostavax or Shingrix vaccines? They help, but there have been manufacturing shortages. We just got restocked in Cali about 3 weeks ago. Folks been lining up waiting to get it. At this point, Valtrex is the correct therapy for breakout. Do they also have you on Gabapentin? It does suck so, I wish you a speedy recovery. Hang in there.

I had my first case a few years back. I had the first vacation, but got the case a few months later. All I can say was I wanted to die. I lived in a lounge chair for 3 months living on Valtrex , Gabapentin , and Oxy. After it went away , two months later I got it on the other side , but was much less severe and only lasted 3 weeks. I survived it and it even seemed to kill the pain causing my sciatic nerve pain in my lower back . Then after 6 months last December I was able to get new shot , the double dose . After a few months , 45 days ago got my second dose and was told I should be fine for a very long time. I wish no one this pain. Get the shot even though there is a shortage...

Yes. You can get chicken pox. How old are you?

Talk to your doctor. No reason for anybody to get chicken pox or if they’ve had chicken pox, a severe case of shingles.

You can read the stories here, people I’ve talked to that have had severe shingles, it’s not surprising someone here have talked about suicide. It is some serious serious pain. There are physicians that post here that will tell you that

NO ONE SHOULD BE GETTING SEVERE SHINGLES NOWADAYS.

Bro, last yr, no bull chit, I was at the job, right and kept saying to myself my undershirt is hella annoying me right now. Just real scratchy for no reason. As the day progressed, it went from scratchy to burning.

Next day, got hit w rashes and blisters. Diagnosed w shingles. I’m fairly young, so it caught me off guard. The Doctor said it’s no longer just older ones affected by it, but anyone who had chicken pox before.

I feel for you bro. I didn’t have a bad case of it, but just that mild case along made me neve want to experience it again when I get older, which my physician said it’s very likely.

Is honey code for morphine? I’m a boomer with high pain threshold but got a little string of the ******** back in 80’s and that crap hurt. My father-in-law was MD so he gave me a scrip for some pain pill. Halfway through the day I sent my wife to him with instructions to come back with something stronger or not come back. Dont know what he sent, but I was smiling all day for about a week.

I've had 3 operations in the past 2 years, one knee and two on the same shoulder no way in **** I was wasting my Vicodin on pain. I want them when I feel good to make me feel even better. LMAO

You have my heartfelt sympathy I had a horrible bout with that disease some years ago and the pain literally drove me crazy. I finally had to have nerve blocks on four separate occasions to finally get the pain under control. Worst of all it was partially in my eye and I was afraid I might go blind. Thankfully it finally went away after the blocks. Haven’t had another occurrence for some time. People who don’t get their kids vaccinated for chicken pox are just setting them up for this misery later in life. Hope you feel better soon.

Is this a new vaccine? I got a shingles vax about 3 or 4 years ago. Is there a new one out?

For pneumonia, there was one vaccine then they came with another one. So, for old people, I think they recommend two vaccines.

Didn't realize how many old people are on this board...guess you have to have had chicken pox first....I had it before the chicken pox vaccine came out. When I was a kid in Miami...didn't have AC at the time so it was kind of ****** with all these **** blisters.

If the shingles pain is neuropathic (nerve pain), and it must be because one of you said you use gaba....ask the doc if Lyrica would be more effective. Lyrica is a further refinement of gabapentin or at least a similar drug...I believe both work on gaba receptors. A pain specialist tells me he had found for his sciatica patients that most say Lyrica is more effective. Tried it but Lyrica had more side-effects so I won't back to gabapentin.

These drugs treat most or all forms of nerve pain--sciatica, diabetic neuropathy, I guess. And I guess shingles.

Hope I never get shingles....I feel for you guys. Should get whatever shots the docs recommend. No big deal. I've managed to get used to needles. Used to hate them. I've given myself thousands of injections.

I found the answer. I had the old vaccine, Zostavax, 2 or 3 years ago. CDC recommends new vaccine, Shingrix, since it's more effective. I will start looking into it this week. If you had the old vaccine, you should get the new one Shingrix (2 shots, 2-6 months apart.)

Neither vaccine seems to confer long-term or lifetime protection. You might have to go back every three years. Note that both affect post-herpetic neuralgia which lasts after a flare-up of shingles occurs.

If you're already experiencing shingles, I guess you could consider vaccine anyway. Ask your doctor, check CDC website or another reliable medical website like Mayo Clinic or WebMD. ( Popular websites like Pornhub or XHamster are not considered authoritative medical websites even if the instructional video portrays young women in nurse's uniforms about to perform an exam. Just thought I'd share this insight.)

No I haven't but I've seen it offered at drugs store but ignored it along with flu shot , now that I'm 61 I must take these things into consideration.

Friends please first I want to thank you all seriously , keep the info coming I'm at THE HUGE DESK at work LOLOLOL ,looking for laughter friends , here is a synopsis of events.

Oh by the way over the past couple weeks or so I've been having extreme stress at home and work very high anxiety with no sanctuary for relief way more then the usual I know this is the trigger.

A week ago I thought my back was out up by my shoulder blades went to chiropractor he did his thing really did NOT to help ease the tremendous pain especially at night , made an appointment with my deep message therapist and when I took my shirt of I heard a OMG your back full of blisters on your right side and your chest under arms , you have shingles cannot work on you with this virus, so many sleepless nights every night geeez.

I freaked WHAT WHAT he took pictures to show me again I freaked , rushed home showed my wife she freaked. I called my doctor and sent him photos and he confirmed SHINGLE and called the same medications (3) you all shared.

Friends even with meds I still have pain but the edge is starting to weaken a bit.........A BIT I say little bit.Last night I was moaning and rolling around in bed.

I'll be checking in moving forward , I needed to share thank you ALL.

Vaccine for shingles.
