MIAMI LEGACY TO FOLLOW IN FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS

Florida Recruiting Analyst
This story was originally published on ScoutFootball.com.

Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes reeled in a verbal commitment from a legacy recruit on Sunday evening, when 2018 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School cornerback Alphonso Blades II shut down the recruiting process as just a freshman.

Alphonso Blades II, the son of former standout safety at the University of Miami, Al Blades, is a legacy recruit and 2018 defensive back out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School who's poised to become one of the elite p_layer_s in South Florida over the next couple of years.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound freshman has the bloodlines and will continue to get bigger and stronger over the next three years. Blades plays with good technique for a prospect that's still in the infant stages of his development. The rising sophomore has a nose for the ball and plays with physicality in the secondary as well.

While in the midst of a visit at the nearby University of Miami on Sunday afternoon, Blades' prayers were answered when Al Golden opted to pull the trigger and reward him with his initial scholarship offer of the recruiting process.

Not only was he offered a scholarship, Blades wasted no time and made an early pledge to his dream school, a moment he's been dreaming of for as long as he can remember.

"UM was the choice for me all along and it was my desire from when I was a kid," Blades said. "When they gave me the opportunity, I called my uncle Brian to clarify if it was okay and he gave me the go ahead. When I was visiting the campus, it was a dream come true just to be there. Then in the middle of practice, Al told me that they had offered.

"I was confused at first, so afterwards when we were talking, I tried to clarify and see if it was official and (coach Golden) said yes. That's when I realized that my dream was coming true, but I still have a long way to go and there will be obstacles to climb, so we will see."

Blades, who lost his father in a tragic car accident in March of 2003, is grateful for the opportunity to follow in his father's footsteps in nearby Coral Gables.

"I feel like I get the opportunity to finish something he didn't get to," Blades said. "It's a true blessing to know I'm making him proud."

Blades becomes Miami's first verbal commitment from the class of 2018.

It's his 20 yard shuttle. Which is actually...... Very very very very good for his age. I mean that's close to top of the line 20 yard shuttle for top senior D1 prospects in high school.

I can imagine his 40 is somewhere in the 4.5 range right now. Crazy thing is, good chance he can get faster.

Yup. Blades posted a better short shuttle before his sophomore year of HS ball than over half the DBs that just tested at the NFL Combine last month. Impressive number.

2018 CB Burns Commits to Miami
Ryan Bartow - 9 hours ago 4

Defensive back Thomas Burns (Miami/Northwestern) verbally committed to Miami.

Burns is the younger brother of Miami cornerback Artie Burns.

Thomas Burns said he picked up a verbal offer at camp last summer from the Hurricanes.

"I just called (Hurricanes) coach (Al) Golden and let him know," Thomas Burns said. "He was surprised and happy. My brother said I belong there and that's the place to be. He told me it's a good atmosphere. It's the best school to be at."

Burns (5-10, 155) said he started as a freshman at cornerback opposite of Georgia signee Deandre Baker this past season for Northwestern.

Burns is Miami's second commit in the 2018 class along with Al Blades, Jr.

Northwestern freshman Thomas Burns, the younger brother of University of Miami cornerback and track star Artie Burns, won titles in both boys’ hurdles events.

Thomas Burns, already ranked among the nation’s elite in the 300-meter hurdles, ran a career-best 38.22 in winning the event Thursday. The time was .11 seconds faster than what his older brother ran when he won the Class 3A state title in 2013 as a senior.

The younger Burns won the 110 meters Thursday in 14.41 seconds. Artie Burns won three state titles in the 110 hurdles.

“I was excited that I won because not many freshman come in and win two hurdles in the region,” Burns said. “Artie and I have talked about track our whole lives. Same with football. Like him, I’m just trying to make the NFL and the Olympics. If I win a state title next week I wouldn’t know what to say. I would just sit there and smile.”

6/6/15
Thomas Burns has the 22nd fastest time in the nation this year out of any class in the 300m hurdles.

Billy Joseph just got offered by Alabama.
I spoke with Larry Blustien about Joseph a little while back. Said that Joseph position at the next level will be determined by how much he grows as he is still growing. He's a legit 6'1"-6'2" right now. Good chance he ends up a DE.

Said Jaquan Beaver from Booker T has loads of ability too, would probably end up a LB.

JALEN PATTERSON MAKES AN EARLY PLEDGE

This story was originally published on ScoutFootball.com.

Jalen Patterson, one of the nation's premier athletes for the class of 2018 out of Citra (Fla.) North Marion, committed to the University of Miami over a host of others on Friday morning, a source tells Scout.

Citra (Fla.) North Marion has over 10 players on their roster that will have the opportunity to make a roster at the Division I level, but it's hard to look past the potential star power in their 2018 class.

Offensive weapon Justin Watkins pounced on a scholarship offer from the LSU Tigers a couple of weeks back, and now his classmate is off the board after making an early pledge on Friday morning.

Jalen Patterson, a 5-foot-11, 179-pound do-it-all athlete and rising sophomore, made a verbal commitment to Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes on Friday morning, a source told Scout. In addition to the U, Patterson has offers on the table from West Virginia, Oregon State and Mississippi State.

Patterson shows good vision and burst when getting repetitions at running back, but is an instinctive headhunter that really welcomes contact in the secondary. Patterson has terrific closing speed and can stop on a dime and change direction with ease as well.
With still three years of prep football left on his plate, Patterson's position at the next level with largely depend on how much he grows and fills out over the next couple of seasons. Either way, Patterson is a big-time talent with an offer sheet that should reach double-digits before you know it.

Joining Alphonso Blades II and Billy Joseph, Patterson becomes Miami's third verbal commitment for the class of 2018.

2018 ATHLETE HAS A CHILDHOOD FAVORITE
Corey BenderCorey Bender
Florida Recruiting Analyst
This story was originally published on ScoutFootball.com.

Before it's all said and done, rising sophomore athlete Jalen Patterson will be flooded with scholarship offers from a number of big-time programs, but is already equipped with three BCS offers early on. However, Patterson is still awaiting a scholarship offer from his childhood favorite school.

The Florida State Seminoles are the clear front-runner for elite signal caller Joey Gatewood, a 2018 prospect out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail who possesses close to a dozen scholarship offers heading into his sophomore campaign.

In addition to Gatewood, there's another blue-chip prospect out of the 2018 class that's been high on the Seminoles for as long as he can remember.

Jalen Patterson, a two-way standout and lifelong supporter of Florida State out of Citra (Fla.) North Marion, has yet to receive a scholarship offer from the ACC program, but is armed with early offers out of the Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.

In the video below, the 5-foot-9, 160-pound Patterson talks about his freshman campaign with the Colts, the significant interest he has in Jimbo Fisher's program, the trio of schools that have extended offers, college visits over the summer and more.

Miami, FL (Columbus)
Cornerback
6'1", 180

Cornerback Josh Jobe (Miami/Columbus) landed an offer from Miami at camp and hopped on it, committing to the Hurricanes.
"Only because I want to stay close to home," Jobe said. "I think it's a good fit for me and it's an excellent school."
Jobe (6-1, 180) is the fifth verbal commit for Miami in the 2018 class.

DB Josh Jobe commits to Miami Hurricanes
June 14, 2015
Matt Porter.

Miami added a rising sophomore defensive back to its list of commitments.

Josh Jobe, a class of 2018 player from Christopher Columbus High in Miami, committed to the Hurricanes on Sunday.

Jobe, listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, plays on the same team as 2016 linebacker/defensive end commit Josh Uche.

Jobe is the third defensive back to commit to UM’s 2018 class, which includes five players. The DBs are Jobe, Thomas Burns (Artie’s younger brother) and Al Blades Jr. (son of the late former UM safety); the class also includes defensive end Billy Joseph and athlete Jalen Patterson. None of the players have been ranked by recruiting services this early in their high school careers.

According to 247Sports, LSU, which has accepted pledges from two players, and Alabama (one) are the only other programs who have 2018 commits.

Miami DB Commit Jobe Named Army All-American
One of Miami's top 2018 commits will play in the Army Bowl

Miami Columbus 2018 defensive back Josh Jobe is U.S. Army All-American.
2/9/17

The Miami verbal commit accepted an invite to play in the Army Bowl on Wednesday.

Jobe, who is ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 86 overall prospect and No. 11 cornerback in the country, has been committed to the Hurricanes June of 2015. While he has remained solid on the pledge to the local school that hasn't stopped programs like both Alabama and Michigan from reaching out

“Miami is Miami,” Jobe told InsideTheU last week. “It’s still my hometown and everything, but I still have to do what’s best for me."

Jobe is expected attend a different school next season because he will not be eligible to play for Miami Columbus due to the FHSAA's age restriction rules.

Does anyone know what Al Blades's cousin's name is that will also likely be a D1 recruit? I remember reading something about him but forgot the name. I wanted to check out some highlights.

Robert hicks

He plays for Booker T

Thanks. Hope he gets an offer soon. Did a little reading seems like he's a defensive leader on Booker T. for only being a sophomore. Plus it never hurts having some more Blades blood in the program. Whose kid is he? One of Bennie, Brian, and Al's sisters I assume?

2018 DE to watch for. He was doing great at the 'Bama camp. James Head Jr., they said he won 95% of his reps. 6'4" 200.

feeling a lil old.

I remember James Head being at Southridge when i was in high school...think he was 2 grades ahead but he was a big time prospect. I think Southridge went to states that year he was there. He must of had this kid when he was in high school
