Mbecks22 (longtime poster on grassy and now here) did an analysis on All Americans, I don't recall if it was 1st and 2nd team, but the correlation was you had a higher hit of 4*/5* getting that recognition. Meaning stars do matter. I don't recall the numbers, but it was a huge drop off 3* and below.

Its about like saying that it doesn't matter if our drafted in the first round of Major League Baseball or if the rounds after because more guys in the league are not first rounders than are.

It's all about expected value. No recruiting service can accurately predict the outcome for every recruit because there are too many outside factors. I think recruiting services do a great job identifying potential and that is born out by the number of 5 stars who make the league on a per capita basis.

A team can succeed without signing 4 and 5 stars, but the probability of that happening goes way down.
