It hasn’t exactly been a secret that 2020 Gulliver Prep (FL) 4-star DT Westley Neal has been waiting on a Miami offer. He’s attended countless camps on UM’s campus hoping to get noticed; at times, he thought an offer might never come. However, the wait made it even sweeter when the Hurricanes finally came through with a bid, as safeties coach Ephraim Banda called him last night with the good news.
“He was saying that they like me and I definitely have the talent to play at Miami, then he offered me,” Neal said. “It feels awesome.”
Tennessee, WVU, Kentucky, UVA, Pitt, Indiana, Rutgers, and USF all made Neal’s recent top 8 released last week, but now he admits that the Miami offer is a game-changer for him and that he will amend his list.
“They are high on my list. They have been my dream school since I was a little kid,” Neal said of UM. “I love that swag.”
At this time, Neal is unsure when he will able to visit UM again, but he last visited campus for a junior day event in February. The 6-1, 315 pound prospect will also take his first official visit to Rutgers this weekend. He is currently deciding which schools will receive the other four official visits, but admits it has been difficult to narrow things down further.
“Every school is constantly in my ear,” Neal said. “A brotherhood and the type of defense they run are important. Also, a place where I feel like it is home.”
Neal recorded a 5.29 in the 40, a 4.83 shuttle time, and a 27.50 inch vertical at the Opening Miami Regional back in February. As a junior in 2018 for Gulliver Prep, he totaled 70 tackles, 19 TFL, 1.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.
“This off-season, I’m working on shredding a little fat and getting my speed up,” Neal said.
