I'm anxious for the season....tell me what you think....if you don't agree....go lick a D

We are coming into this season with a great offense, but i believe it can be elite. There are 3 players on offense that need to step up. All 3 Dont have to, but I want to see at least one step up and surprise.
1. Dallas Crawford
He has shown glimpses of being an elusuve playmaker. I believe he can be great on third downs and even play some roles as a wildcat QB.
2. Danny Dillard
He came in heavy, out of shape, and not the right mindset. He supposedly has legit speed & he does posess good size. Apparently he had a pretty good spring, but we need him to give 35-50 carries this year and deliver. Hopefully he comes out and can give Duke a breather and move some chains.
3. Augustus Edwards
Like Dillard, he has great size. We need a back to give Duke a breather that can still impose some fear...or at least keep defenses honest when Duke is not in. Maybe Edwards will be the guy that can give us a solid 3-7 carries a game that can keep you the chains moving.

We already have play makers on offense, but if at least one of these guys steps up and becomes a legitimate threat....the offense will be super legit. Our Oline just needs to take that extra step while they develop an attitude.

IMO,Augustus will be the surprise. Kid runs like he's ****ed off and has good speed for his size. The staff loves Crawford and have been talking him up all spring so I'm expect a good year from him too.

Crawford and Edwards yes. Crawford is a raw athlete that in space will create and produce. Edwards I believe will show better speed and agility than expected. Both these guys I believe will produce.

But I don't expect much from Dillard. I just don't. I want every Cane to excel but I just don't see it for this kid.

Why are so many willing to **** on a kid before he has a chance to develop? Dillard has played in 0 games and had 8 carries in the spring game what do you base your opinion of his work on? I saw a kid with a good burst who ran hard on his few carries. Please post why we should trust your limited view of Dillards body of work over our coaches.

Dillard isn't an incoming Frosh, he's a redshirt Frosh.. An incoming freshman who hasn't done a **** thing is the next sensation. A guy who has been on campus for a year and hadn't done a **** thing is a bum. It happens every year. Fans will trust a high school senior before they trust a RS Freshman/Sophomore in college.. It's just the nature of a fan.

Shows how little the fan really knows. Fans who don't have the resume or credentials to be a coach want to question the ones that do. Its a **** shame some of these fools are not held to the same accountability in their job they expect from our coaches. Most would be out of work.

So the OP wants to discuss being an elite with three unproven guys. Perhaps Crawford gives a little contribution but for the Canes to be elite, we need for the following to occur:
Stephen Morris develop a soft touch.
Combo of Walford and Sandland to become studs
Dorsett to not have a Notre Dame type game
Scott to not get into a fight with his girlfriend
And no major injuries

1) Sandland. Would be nice to have two TEs that defenses have to worry about. Especially ones that can block as well.

2) Crawford. The need for someone to spell Duke Johnson is obvious.

3) Waters. Dorsett made a big jump in production from a similar Freshman campaign statistically.

A more interesting discussion would be three from the Defense. Beyond a #2 RB, the offense is pretty much set.

561, Great point about Morris and his touch. I would add poise as well. If the game has slowed down for Morris mentally this offense will be explosive.

561,

I totally agree, but I was simply trying to point out that when it comes to the 3 unknowns, it would give the offense a significant boost. I expect Dorsey to have better hands, of course we need to avoid injuries, and yes...Scott needs to slow his roll.

To be an Elite offense we need one of the TE's to step up and become a legit threat. Walford is close to being that. Sandman we have to see. But if one of these two become a force the offense will be Elite.
Also, need more consistency from the WR's. Hurns is a solid reliable possession receiver when healthy. We know Dorsett is a big play guy now we need Scott, Waters, and/or one of the new kids like Coley to compliment that threat. Good thing is we have numbers of legit kids that can be game breakers. Who will step up?
At RB we need a one of the big boys to be thunder to Duke's lighting. Dillard or Edwards.

Not writing Dillard off at all but Gus is a much better "prospect" IMO. But that's meaningless now that they are both on the next level.

We need RB competition anywhere we can get it, so these guys need to step up quickly.

Your post is valid though, no doubt.
