After 10 games it’s been the funnest season in years. Every single person on the board would have taken 9-1 with the top offense in CFB.

With 3 must win games left my hopes are:

1. Mario brings in a fresh set of eyes to help with the defense similar to what Matt Rhule did with Holgerson. It’s obvious that Guidry is in a funk and we need a reset. Matt Lafleur did the same with Salah on the offensive side. What happened to all the exotic pressures of a year ago?

2. Redefine Sam Brown, Mark Fletcher and Kiko’s roles. After 10 games it’s pretty obvious that you can’t use Sam and Kiko on 3rd downs. Sam has proven that catching the ball in any form of traffic is a step too far, Fletcher can’t catch the ball either and Kiko can’t cover.

3. Get CJ, JoJo and Lofton more involved. It seems that we’re having separation issues at times. CJ and Lofton are nightmares match up wise and JoJo doesn’t need separation. He’s one of the best 50/50 receivers we’ve seen in HS.

4. Experiment with Lightfoot, Pickett and Rudolph off the edge. Ole Miss harrassed Beck all day with smaller DE's. Perkins is only 210 lbs. Georgia has a great oline but they were no match on passing downs for the speed of Unanmielen and Perkins. Our freshman DE's seem to have similar size/speed profiles.

5. How did Ole Miss get so much more out of the portal with less money than we did. We basically got Cam, Martinez, Barrow and a bunch of JAGs. Maybe some of it is Guidry not getting the best out of them?

6. This is more down the road but given the depth we've developed it might make sense to spend big on fewer difference makers in the portal rather than a bunch of JAGs. We're pretty loaded rosterwise except at QB, WR and DB and we're bringing in a boatload of DBs.

Guidry has definitely regressed. We got used to getting scorched in first half but somehow getting back on track in second. That didn’t happen yesterday. We never adjusted to anything. Very last play of game we still get smoked by a jet sweep that we had no chance at defending. That was maddening.

That’s a lot to take care of on the bye week
The only difficult ones are 1 and 4. 4 should be easy to try against Wake. I just don’t know how big Mario’s network is. Matt Patricia isn’t doing anything. If Steve Belichick could go to UW why not. I know that he knew Fisch before but worth a try. Mel Tucker? Maybe he’s too toxic. What’s Clint Hurtt doing. Some don’t like him but I assume he learned something under Carroll.

Even Al Golden said he learned in NFL you do not have til halftime to figure things out.. lol..

I’m really not trying to be a **** at all, but if you think this is all that simple at this point after 10 games then I’ll just agree to disagree. No big deal.

I guess people like the post to make themselves feel better and give themselves hope. This isn’t criticism, just an observation.

The defense has mostly average to bad players with poor coaching. What could possibly change? We have experienced starters who cannot tackle, lineup correctly, and handle assignments. I’m not gonna bag on true freshmen. They’re starting with the disadvantage of no experience paired with getting bad coaching.

This would be a .500 team without Cam Ward. Many things would change with Emory. I think he would play well, but the offense would be missing much of the explosiveness they’ve had all year. They would have to methodically grind out points. This might actually help the defense a little bit.

Where are you getting that Ole Miss has less money than us?

Sorry for the long post, just a scrambled mess of sober-ish thoughts.

I've been thinking about it more and I do think it comes back to coaching. No clue what the coaches are doing, but they're doing *something* wrong. I remember Guidry being called a player's coach and that everyone liked him. When he came in last season we felt like our defense had taken a step in the right direction. He literally got his contract extended and posters on here were saying to do anything to keep him, as he was bound to be a HC soon...etc
Getting Kiko as a transfer from washington state, he came in and shored up the LB position. We were all happy to finally have a LB that could tackle and had a nose for the ball. Even Meesh Powell had appeared to have been a solid transfer.
At first they played decently, but it's like...the more they are in the system and the more coaching they get here, the further they regress? I do remember some talk about Kiko getting too many snaps and that many times he needs a breather but the coaches "won't pull him because he's too important" or something along those lines.
I just don't get it. Going from Manny Diaz to Cristobal, year 1 it appeared as if fundamentals were back and players could do simple things again. No clue where it all went wrong. Even just week 1 vs Florida to yesterday. We could tell the team didnt "play their best game" vs UF, but it still looked mostly complete, and the fundamentals were there.
Every other team in the country can call WR screens and they appear to work more than ours do. Literally don't get it. Ole Miss had tons of injuries and was playing in the pouring rain and absolutely dominated Georgia. We literally practice in South Florida and are the Hurricanes and if it even sprinkles at all players are fumbling the ball and slipping everywhere.

To answer your points:
1. Woudlnt be opposed to this. More experience help should always in theory be better. I think the only issue is clashing personalities and stubborn coaches.
2. Don't know what Dawson was doing. Fletcher has never had the best hands, no clue why his number was called on that 4th and 1. Shouldve been a misdirection qb run, or an actual run play. Agree on Sam Brown. He's only been clutch one game so far. The % has to point to him dropping the ball.
3. CJ I don't think is it. I get it he has crazy speed, but dude has no bend, his moves don't ever shake anyone, he goes down at the first contact, and just doesn't appear to weigh enough. JoJo and Lofton should be pushing for playing time. I feel like JoJo should be able to steal Sam Browns playing time soon. I've been hard on Sam Brown. He's done better recently, but really he just isn't 1st string starting caliber at this point. He cannot catch a contested ball to save his life.
4. lightfoot is underweight at the moment. Pickett looked decent when in. Can't really compare them to Perkins until they are that good. That guy is just GOOD despite his size. Really just uses his quickness well.
5. Evals. Maybe they didnt though, could just be better coached?
6. Easier said than done. Everyone's in the portal for a reason and all teams are all trying to aquire talent in the portal. Just part of the modern game.

Nothing is fixing the defense until the DC is fired. All our problems is systematic.
This 100%. There are no personennel changes that will help on the defensive side until we figure out what’s going on with coaching/scheme... That much is abundantly clear.

I’m usually on the “better player, better results” boat…. But players are not the main problem here in my opinion.

Start by benching Kiko, it’s been a Kiss Of Death of all failed Miami head coaches by riding with under performing upperclassmen.
Issue with him is they have him covering the back’s going out on pass plays and teams are taking advantage of it.
Our scheme sucks.
The 2 things he is best at is defending the run and blitzing and not chasing down running backs on wheel routes.

How about some game planning.

How about doing different things than show up on film?

How about abandoning our customary go-to plays?

We're too predictable. The absolute worst thing one can do in a game or battle.

Anticipated Line Of Approach? It's called that for a reason.
