Malcolm Bunche

I remember watching Bunche play LT on the scout team back in 2010 and thinking he had a future there. I do agree that another year of Utough could really help. Especially guys like McDermott and Linder who are a tad skinny.

Bunche has what you look for in a LT in terms of size and athleticism, like that he got some time last year. He should be much improved this year. If Henderson also makes the jump we should have 2 great bookends to protect Morris.

Our OLine really needs to step it up this year, not just for the sake of our running game, but for the sake of Stephen Morris. I've noticed that Morris has above average "pocket awareness" and if he's given enough time to throw, he can pick apart defenses (See Maryland 2011 game).

Bunche, IMO is a true guard or at best a right tackle. He is strong and huge, but lacks the athletic ability to handle speed rushers. Remember, he came to miami as a guard. I doubt he will hold on to the LT position.

I agree with your version. Malcolm Bunche at left tackle scares the heck out of me. I've never understood the hype. The first time I watched Bunche I immediately thought of Reggie Youngblood, and made that comparison on another board. Subsequently I realized it was a bit harsh but IMO it's closer to reality than the grandiose projections. Bunche plays too high and is not naturally flexible or athletic. I think the tout of Bunche was largely a case of transferred false enthusiasm after the same group realized they were wrong about Jermaine Johnson a year earlier. Bunche is a step up from Johnson. Flowers shows considerably more promise than either one but I still need to see more. Backup role in a spring game is not a valid reference point.

co-sign this for the most part. I think Johnson's natural athletic ability and explosion could make him a pretty good LT if he's fully focused (the big IF with him). I'd feel a lot more comfy with Bunche at RT for the same reason's you said. Just too straight legged - guys will get under him and drive him back even with him being so strong in the weight room. More important than weight room strength is the old adage "the low man wins". So much is about leverage.

and Flowers might be better than both of them right now. Just hard to throw a true freshman in there at LT from the start.

Agree on Bunche's flexibility. He's athletic in terms of explosiveness and conditioning but not necessarily coordination. I think he can be a right tackle in the Orlando Franklin mode, but I don't think it's fair to expect a dancing bear at LT.

As for Jermaine Johnson, he took a major step back last year but had a really good spring and offseason. I still think we can find a role for a player with his natural power.

So can we expect Seantrel to take over the LT position this Fall now that he's healed?

No, LT position needs to be a mentally strong mature person. Henderson doesn't have the work ethic at this point to man that spot. Henderson is gonna have his hands full keeping that RT spot. Golden moved Flowers to that side because he likes to play his 5 best lineman. During the spring, Henderson was the third best tackle. Having said that, Henderson has all the physically tools to be the best tackle ever to play at Miami, he just needs to mature and work hard for it.
