Didn't know where else to post this but thought this could be an interesting discussion.

This article has the Dept of Education saying that the new revenue sharing MUST comply with title IX. Basically saying that 50% must go to men and 50% must go to women (if I understand it correctly).

From what I gathered/read before, most schools were planning to allocate most of the money to football/basketball since they generate revenue

Wonder if it gets challenged? Or maybe the schools now decide not to fund the full $20.5 million? Seems like it's not NIL at all if the Dept of Ed is telling the schools how they have to share it.

But NIL is supposed to be individual player compensated for deals. Once the schools started agreeing to paying the players outright this was inevitable

Department of Education is even saying it's the school's responsibility to make NIL from third parties fair as well (probably completely unenforceable).

Money should go to the sports that create the money. That's kind of how things work.

Posturing from the dept of ed pushing schools to eliminate student athletes from major revenue generating athletics.

Ultimately I expect you will see two athletics teams associated with major universities. JV and Varsity. With the Varsity being a team of pay for play mercenaries as an extension of the university brand but zero connection to the academic arm of the university. JV teams would function just like we all wish it would and kids who ball out could earn a varsity spot occasionally.

I said this would happen when this was first being discussed here in 2020. There is no way around it until it eventually makes it all the way to SCOTUS and they say different.
You predicted revenue sharing would be allowed and then the DOE would force it to be equal between men and women sports?
